I'm sure the Chargers will have all this hype around them now about how McDaniel is finally going to unlock this elite-level Herbert we keep hearing about but never see when it matters...

Bill Belichick was a defensive minded HC and could sway Tom to default mode.DanKD wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:34 pm I prefer an offensive head coach but definitely wouldnt be upset at Minter. Hed be a quality hire
And thats fine as long as they hire a superior OC like McDaniel.
Outside of the longevity and prestige position the Steelers offer, every coach wants part of Mendoza.

I think Tom Brady is the shield between Davis and the team and thats a good thing.GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 5:34 pm Around January 4th. Prior to that I would have put us right there with the Cardinals and Browns. Sure there’s hopium involved here, but with us having the 1st pick, what looks to be a winning QB available to draft, and a very very quiet Doofus Davis letting football people make football decisions, there’s a very good chance my ranking will be justified. …hopefully.

The Chargers OC is a solid landing spot.

McDaniels might be the best thing that ever happened to Herbert, his game has seemed to have plateaued.

The Chargers defense was the strength of their team. Dude is the best defensive candidate available IMO

Everyone keeps dogging mark, but he's brought in outside opinions for every hire outside of Gruden. I do think he has been try to get consistency in the organization, but we aren't the only team trying to get there.KillerRaider30 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 6:48 pm I think Tom Brady is the shield between Davis and the team and thats a good thing.

To me, our issue is likely a reputational problem with Mark. We’re pitching a multi-year rebuild with an owner that doesn’t appear to have much patience for it. You might feel great about what you could do with this team over a few years. But if you don’t feel great about what you can do year 1… you’re really taking a risk with Mark.chucker wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 5:32 pm I agree. I don't think candidates are going to say "good franchise" or "bad franchise". It's more about where they expect the franchise to go from here, and if they have the resources to accomplish it.
I gotta think that’s a big part of the calculation here: coaches just avoiding the uncertainty of working for Mark.

Well it’s guaranteed money for doing nothing if Bowl Cut can’t hold his water. The prospective coach can’t really lose because he gets paid either way and everyone knows it’s not really on him if he face-plants, because Raiders.raiders93 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 7:18 pm To me, our issue is likely a reputational problem with Mark. I think people are getting a bit ridiculous & choosyGoodtimes333 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 6:58 pm The Chargers defense was the strength of their team. Dude is the best defensive candidate available IMO
A young hot defensive minded coach who has top tier defences where ever he has been isn’t good enough, i don’t think the Chargers would have made the playoff if it wasn’t for Minter’s defence
I’ve seen alot of people talk about Minter ability to build a staff but surely the likes of Webb & Kubiak have those same flaws
I want THE best coach for the job no matter what side of the ball

I prefer to go offensive just for Mendoza's development. Don't want him learning a new system every couple years. But really that's the only reason.CWood24 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 9:28 pm I think people are getting a bit ridiculous & choosy
