Not sure if it's an echo or if it's deja vu'...either way, it's likely spawned by boredom..

To be honest, no one had Plunkett on their radar. After he won the ROY award, he fell off fast and even his rookie year was nothing to write home about. He was beaten to hell in NE and then again in SF. He was signed to the Raiders and sat the next season. He threw a total of 7 passes in his first 2 seasons in Oakland. They were healing his body and at the same time healing his mind. But he was an all but forgotten player during his years in NE and SF because he had no weapons, no line and very little in the wins column. I remember at the time he was signed that it was not even reported for days in the papers. And I read the sports section every day. And when I saw it, it was a moment of eh, another backup. But Jimmy got better and then they sent him out. Hell, he had a hard time besting Wilson. But he was tough, really mentally tough so he learned how to be a Raider and that is all we needed.

Why people are even sipping cool-aide on this guy is beyond me.
He's a good bridge with a lot of experience and he's had success. He also gets to be our experiment crash test dummy while the O-line is developing. He'll work hard and appears to have the type of personality that allows him to understand what his role is on this team under these circumstances.

It's hard to think of someone who would be a better mentor to Mendoza.

Oh, and I think signing him shows much needed long term thinking by Kubiak. Let the rookie breathe and learn the game. I think that's also a big part of why most of us like the Cousins signing. Mendoza has the potential to be a 15 year player, and decisions are being made to see to it that happens.

The key is to have his QB coach at his side when Cousins is in the game talking about what he is seeing, both the good and the bad to give Mendoza a current running narrative of the game as it happens. Retrospect is great and all and I want guys watching film but in the moment can hit home that much more what is happening.

In NFL history how many QB's over 38 years old have had 3 touchdowns in each of their first 3 games?

Answer:

Only one, Kirk "3 TD" Cousins...

I have no idea if he finishes at this pace, but Cousins is playing pretty damn good all things considered.

And noodle arm talk? Sure didn’t look like it yesterday to Tucker.

Point being, the longer Menodoza keeps watching and learning the better. Cousins is a perfect QB for him to learn from. Everything we did this year was with the mindset of setting up Fernando for success in the future. That was and is still the right decision.

Along the way however we found ourselves a FA vet QB who is playing pretty damn good.
