Cousins signs with Raiders
I don't love this. I get it, but I don't love it.

Not sure if it's an echo or if it's deja vu'...either way, it's likely spawned by boredom..

To be honest, no one had Plunkett on their radar. After he won the ROY award, he fell off fast and even his rookie year was nothing to write home about. He was beaten to hell in NE and then again in SF. He was signed to the Raiders and sat the next season. He threw a total of 7 passes in his first 2 seasons in Oakland. They were healing his body and at the same time healing his mind. But he was an all but forgotten player during his years in NE and SF because he had no weapons, no line and very little in the wins column. I remember at the time he was signed that it was not even reported for days in the papers. And I read the sports section every day. And when I saw it, it was a moment of eh, another backup. But Jimmy got better and then they sent him out. Hell, he had a hard time besting Wilson. But he was tough, really mentally tough so he learned how to be a Raider and that is all we needed.

He's a good bridge with a lot of experience and he's had success. He also gets to be our experiment crash test dummy while the O-line is developing. He'll work hard and appears to have the type of personality that allows him to understand what his role is on this team under these circumstances.Raider_Dave wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 11:13 am Cousins looked 100% done in Atlanta the last couple years. A shell of his former average self.
Why people are even sipping cool-aide on this guy is beyond me.
It's hard to think of someone who would be a better mentor to Mendoza.
Oh, and I think signing him shows much needed long term thinking by Kubiak. Let the rookie breathe and learn the game. I think that's also a big part of why most of us like the Cousins signing. Mendoza has the potential to be a 15 year player, and decisions are being made to see to it that happens.

The key is to have his QB coach at his side when Cousins is in the game talking about what he is seeing, both the good and the bad to give Mendoza a current running narrative of the game as it happens. Retrospect is great and all and I want guys watching film but in the moment can hit home that much more what is happening.Opoponax50 wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 11:51 am He's a good bridge with a lot of experience and he's had success.
