It will be a failure if he doesn’t at minimum match Koonce’s talent level and contributions, and he was picked 3/79Opoponax50 wrote: Mon May 25, 2026 10:31 am Of course, but where does the "4 years of high level play" come into the picture?
At this point, the injury coupled with not having played a single down of college ball, let alone an NFL down in a year and a half gives no indicator that the guy will even be a consistent backup or rotational player. I'd rather have taken something like an LB who is likely depth but has potential to be better. Koonce was a player like that up until his injury. Note the word "injury" in that last sentence.

I have feeling had we not drafted DJ Hayden we wouldn’t be having this discussion. It similiar in a lot of ways.
Given he’s a 4th rounder? Not too upset. It’s not again Hayden in the first.
This is a high risk high reward move the brass felt comfortable making. All we can do now is wait and see.

So you are saying there are players with good potential in the fourth, but McCoy isn't one of those with good potential? You can find guys for depth, but how many can you find that are more than likely starters right away. We are thin at every position. CB being one of them.Opoponax50 wrote: Sun May 24, 2026 11:19 am I hope the kid works out. We all do. However, seeing people say that you take flyers on guys in the 4th round is... well, I disagree with that. There's good potential in the 4th, particularly for depth. We're thin at every level on both offense and defense. We may have taken care of the problem at RB, but otherwise, this team needs capable depth players, not a guy who hasn't played football in a year and a half.
I've never an I Told You So type of guy, but if I end up being right, I'm going to do some I Told You So's on this one.

Well, I can tell you now he has way more talent than Koonce does. That is not even close. Also Koonce was picked in the third, why would you say a fourth round pick has to at a minimum match a guy who was drafted a round before him? I would say he should out perform Mailk Muhammed and Deionte Scott, CB who were drafted after him.Viper wrote: Tue May 26, 2026 5:30 am It will be a failure if he doesn’t at minimum match Koonce’s talent level and contributions, and he was picked 3/79

If you read the post I was quoting you’ll see why I mentioned Koonce.haji81872 wrote: Tue May 26, 2026 12:27 pm Well, I can tell you now he has way more talent than Koonce does. So according to Joe Woods, McCoy is still rehabbing his knee? Caught a snippet of his interview. Anyone have context of that quote? I mean it's pretty concerning if he's still rehabbing his knee and it's not 100% almost two years later

Hes on a pitch count as he reintrrgrates back into football. He hasn’t played over that same time.
That in itself "could" be looked at as, still rehabing i guess.
He basically caught punts in the 1st round of OTAs and sat the second out.
Is that part of rhe pitch count? Idk.
Lets see what he does in this weeks 3rd and final OTA before mini camp begins on June 9th.
Another thing to watch fo.

Considering it was in fact a 4th round pick, I don't see it as a "high risk".Willmark wrote: Tue May 26, 2026 10:28 am I have feeling had we not drafted DJ Hayden we wouldn’t be having this discussion. It similiar in a lot of ways.

I also don't see the high risk. 60-70% of 4th round picks make the roster, and of those only 30-40% of those get a second contract. There is no risk.raidersince63 wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 9:12 am Considering it was in fact a 4th round pick, I don't see it as a "high risk".

agree 100 pct "not high risk" and his cost is cheap too but his upside is so worth it at a PREMIUM position

Asked my daughter to get an opinion from one of the surgeons where she works and he apparently said it depends on the size of the plug. Smaller the better but there are lots of variables. Apparently if he needs another surgery he would recommend another profession. He wasn’t familiar with McCoy but he’s done repairs on plenty of athletes from different sports.
For what it’s worth, I just know the guy has an Impressive resume. Hopefully we get 4-5 years of top quality production from him.

4-5 years is a good window of ascension for the current coaching regime and QB I think. Two more drafts and offseasons like the most recent and we should be competing for deep playoff runs by 2028 if not sooner. Of course this all hinges on the development of Mendoza and the HC ability of Kubiak but at the moment I'm feeling alot more confident than the last three regimes. I had some confidence in Gruden 2.0 as well because of his resume and history with the team however then I saw his early round draft picks and lets just say, there went all the warm and fuzzys.Viper wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2026 12:12 pm Asked my daughter to get an opinion from one of the surgeons where she works and he apparently said it depends on the size of the plug.
