There's good potential in the 4th, particularly for depth. We're thin at every level on both offense and defense. We may have taken care of the problem at RB, but otherwise, this team needs capable depth players, not a guy who hasn't played football in a year and a half.

I've never an I Told You So type of guy, but if I end up being right, I'm going to do some I Told You So's on this one.
^^^ 100% there are reports (one that was in the link I posted above) that said there "were other teams ready to pounce". The Raiders were convinced that McCoy was close to being taken in the 4th round by other teams...so to make sure that we drafted him before anyone else did, we traded up to get him.

“I’ve talked to a couple of general managers around the league who shared what their intel was on [McCoy], and by the way, he was not lasting very much longer in the fourth round. People were ready to pounce,” Bonsignore said while guest hosting on Raider Nation Radio’s “JT the Brick”.
“They took the red flag off of him by that point in the draft across the league. So the Raiders did a good job of beating everybody to the punch and the way it’s been explained to me is it’s not a ‘right now’ issue. ”

Success or failure cannot not be predicted

Let’s call it what it was - a shot in the dark with upside if it works out & very little downside if it doesn’t

Success Rates by rounds
4th -12%
5th - 16%
6th - 9%
7th - 5%

Day 3 is exactly where you take gambles on injury risks, raw prospects with athletic upsides & guys with character concerns

You had a go at me for not liking Skylar Bell as a prospect but what makes him good & other prospects bad
Who's calling McCoy a bust? You all keep wanting to separate McCoy's injury risk with other healthy 4th round picks. Its apples to oranges. Day 3 is exactly where established teams take gambles on injury riddled players. We were a team that had holes everywhere. Yes, I wanted Bell. But he was also a position of need, had college production, IMO would of been Mendoza's best friend due to his YAC ability and most importantly HEALTHY.

Again, im not doubting McCoy's ability. But good god stop comparing him to healthy 4th rounders.

^^^Absolutely,...and there are no "guaranteed starters" in the 4th round, or any round for that matter.

you take shots at superior talent at PREMIUM positions from teh 4th rd down...getting one that turns into a top 10 type player at the position puts you way up on talent gap vs other teams

IF, (and that's the elephant in the room,,,) he can get back to playing form for a whole career. It's a 100% steal in the 4th.
If he only plays a few years at a top level... a steal
If he plays a few years just holding it down.. a good 4th rd pick
If he blows out the knee during preseason and we never see him on the field... still worth a 4th.
Definitely worth a throw of the dice.

Of course, but where does the "4 years of high level play" come into the picture?

At this point, the injury coupled with not having played a single down of college ball, let alone an NFL down in a year and a half gives no indicator that the guy will even be a consistent backup or rotational player. I'd rather have taken something like an LB who is likely depth but has potential to be better. Koonce was a player like that up until his injury. Note the word "injury" in that last sentence.

There are no sure things, but there are likelihoods. Also, "success rate" doesn't mean much because it's so ill-defined. I suppose it could mean anything from getting a second contract to being a superstar. As for the former, such a success could mean as little as keeping a practice squad job.

Let's not forget McCoy isnt some cant miss prospect. He was a top 3 CB in an extremely WEAK CB class. His 2024 tape was top notch bur thats all hes got going for him. Could he be a successful corner? Sure. But the way some of y'all are talking he's Revis that fell to the 4th lol.

Over 6 months before the start of the 2026 season and 3 weeks before the draft McCoy turned in a 4.37 40

No, your green font nonsense and your post is implying that you don't think he was hurt. Nothing about being destined to fail. Your consistent, annoying, passive aggressiveness needs to be put in check.

What? lol...The video was illustrating that his knee is healing as it should...shouldn't need explaining.

No, we're saying we got a top half of the first round corner in the fourth round. That's all.

After day 2, teams had all night to discuss players left on the board. McCoy was an obvious conversation but by no means was he a no brainer.

Had he not run a blazing 40 time at his Tennessee pro day, its doubtful he gets picked in the 4th round even.
He can look great in OTA’s, mirroring receivers and going through the drills but, the real test will come in live game situations with real contact. Many will cringe when real physical force tests that knee.

A team can justify the pick if he plays great for even a limited amount of years, say 4 for example. I personally find it difficult to see him having a career longer than that. Even healthy players with no prior medical concerns are subject to injury on any given play. I will call it a good pick if we get several good years of him on the field but, only if he shows no sign for concern in that time frame. Most 4th round picks don’t have the potential to start day 1 let alone for several years. McCoy, at minimum, gives us that potential. If he plays to that potential, it’s doubtful there was another player available on the board that could give you that much ability, at any position. That’s still a big if.
