There's quite a few media opportunities for interviews before and after the event. Which I'm bummed out about because this is the most important Raider draft in a long time and I'm going to consume every second of content I can...but I'm not that bummed considering the context. I'm chugging koolaid and just admiring the fact that he's a family man with a good head on his shoulders.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 11:34 am Who wants to see him shake hands with that clown Goodell anyway. Attending the draft and being on stage the first night was a huge amount of fun. VIP access to a lot of things when it was in town. We had our own beer garden and upscale food trucks. I was within shouting distance of guys like Kiper and other draft day analysts. I met Goodell, got our photo op and we chatted up for a few minutes. Great memories.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 11:39 am Beat me to it...the whole draft day scene is simply a bunch of "made for TV" manufactured drama for the NFL.
I'd rather see him hug his Mom than to take pictures with Goodell.

I went a few times when it was in NY. Way less of a spectacle than it is now, but man was it a blast.Attyla wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 11:50 am Attending the draft and being on stage the first night was a huge amount of fun. They'll go to commercial on the first pick of the draft this year.NoThanksSir wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 11:41 am There's quite a few media opportunities for interviews before and after the event. The balcony area always looked fun. In Nashville, they had day time events in and around the stadium (other side of the Cumberland River) where you could take pics with the Lombardi, sports events and all sorts of food. Tours of the locker room (I never did that stuff but others found it fun.) On the other side of the river, they set up a huge stage at the end of Broadway (where all the bars and honkeytonks are located) with live music during the day. We were led up 1st ave (buildings on one side, the river on the other) which had been partitioned off so all the celebs, players and the select fans of each team could get to the stage without being mobbed.NoThanksSir wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 12:00 pm I went a few times when it was in NY. We got up there about two hours before the draft, again, access to food and booze and such. Each fan got a grab bag of stuff from their team. For some reason, Davis thought we might need toothpaste in our bag. But there were shirts, hats, a unique draft day poster (each team was unique) and again, for some reason ours also had a rain poncho. And then the draft began. There must have been thousands up Broadway, it was wall to wall fans for about 3 blocks and Broadway is also a very wide street. Jacobs gets drafted, they do their photo op and he headed down to where we all were waiting. Selfie stick was brought out and Jacobs took his first picture with a Raiders fan with us. Pretty cool moment. And then the rain hit. And it was a serious downpour. Ferrell did that too, but Jacobs was flat out excited. I was pumped up. I was there yelling and I pointed at him and this is him pointing back.

True story. Helluva lot of fun.

He's a pretty nice guy when you meet him. We chatted up a bit but it was light. I am not the kind of guy to stir up shit in a moment like that. But he does like getting booed at the draft. He eats it up and plays to the crowd. He works for the owners and makes them a lot of money so they back him.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 12:21 pm I went to it when it war in Philly. That's awesome. The draft was kind of glossed over when it was in Manhattan. Half of Radio City was empty most of the time, the other half was rowdy and having a great time. My favorite part was when me and the old man would make the hike to the eastside before/after for the Raider bar in town.. If you're ever in the big apple I recommend catching a game there, it's a fun experience.Attyla wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 12:20 pm The balcony area always looked fun. I had a similar experience on my first visit to NYC/Manhattan/Bronx and attending my first YS Yankees game. During the game some guy sitting next to me quickly figured out that I was an "out of towner" (Georgia) and was telling about all of the Yankees bars there and said "after the game, just follow me"...and I did.NoThanksSir wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 12:47 pm That's awesome. I spent the next 2-3 hours at the bar he said was the best, and once there, and this guy I had met at the game kept taking me from table to table introducing me to people he knew. I must've downed 8 or so shots of Patron' that night but probably only paid for 1. These people that I met there kept buying me drinks because they just wanted to hear me talk and hear my accent and laugh and slap me on the back.
Funny thing is, in my world, I always thought it was the people from up north who "talked funny".

You beat me to the draw. I was going to say something like “They will go to commercial on the pick anyway because Raiders lol”SkullCrusher wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 12:20 pm They'll go to commercial on the first pick of the draft this year.

NYC and the boroughs? They do sound funny to us in upstate and western NY so I get it. Where I live we get: "you guys sound Canadian."raidersince63 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 1:04 pm Funny thing is, in my world, I always thought it was the people from up north who "talked funny".

I was completely blown away by NYC...and so were my preconceptions about northerners and what I had been told about them, which was that they were rude and obnoxious. I was wrong they were very kind and courteous. Saw some odd looking characters on the subway but hell, you can find the same thing at any Walmart down here.
I think every person from the south should take the trip up north so they can discover what I did and conversely every northerner should come down here so they can discover we're really not all bare-footed banjo playing red necks.
