Half of the backups aren't even worthy of being backups!

A bad offense can make your defense look terrible, but it can also cover up a really bad defense. If your offense can't score, the other team just starts running out the clock once they are up by two scores.

The chance that a UDFA will break camp is maybe 10%.
The chance that he would rack up some playing time is maybe 2%
The chance of him being a significant player is even lower.
If he sticks he is going to be little more than roster filler.
Sure take your shots, but its not going to be any significant path to roster building.
Too much squeeze for too little juice.

This is going to come down to some tough choices the first offseason. We have to fix the oline, which will cost us some free agency money and a draft pick or two. The holes on offense are fixable in one season likely enough. The defense has so many holes that it will take two off seasons but we can make a dent in it, particularly if we focus on the dline. I believe they are going to attack the lines and then plug and play players elsewhere. That does include the receivers.

If both lines are the only positions that all of the fa money goes to then I'm a happy camper as I don't think you can ever have enough linemenAttyla wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 2:41 pm This is going to come down to some tough choices the first offseason. I agree the offense is more easily fixable as it does already have key pieces obviously and adding just one or two lineman will go a long way. Especially if we get just decent coaching on the oline. But boy oh boy that defense is a disaster. I don't think PG was a good dc but he kind of worked miracles with the overall talent he had to deal with

The draft used to go 20 rounds. In my lifetime it went 12 rounds . Don't tell me there's not talent out side of 7.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 2:41 pm The chance that a UDFA will break camp is maybe 10%.

Look how far youre going back to find a hit. It doesnt cost much to do that, so by all means, take your shots. I just dont think we will find much gold there.raider_kin wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 5:52 pm The draft used to go 20 rounds. In my lifetime it went 12 rounds . Shots? You seem very combative lately. I hope things turn for the better for you.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 6:31 pm Look how far youre going back to find a hit. It doesnt cost much to do that, so by all means, take your shots. I just dont think we will find much gold there.

Most UDFAs amount to nothing, but you keep trying. Almost every year, 1 or 2 make the roster and some of those turn into pretty good players. It has to be part of a roster building strategy.

Brock Purdy is a product of Kyle Shanahan. Just sayin.

Shanny drafts Mr Irrelevant and Mr Irrelevant exceeds expectations and excels in his scheme. Isn't that the point? Do think a lunkhead like Anthony Richardson could match what Purdy has done if he were playing for Shanahan?
