Definitely this. The last thing I want to hear is that we're setting up more interviews.Attyla wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:25 am I think the second best result would be hearing nothing
Best would be that they have agreed to him being with the Raiders
Worst would be an announcement that Kubiak has removed himself from consideration.
If we hear nothing, he is coming to the Raiders.

Believe it or not, I think our job definitely is head and shoulders above Arizona's. Having a franchise QB vs having no franchise QB is everything for an up and coming head coach looking to make their mark.Hellbound wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:30 am To add to this regarding team success, the Cardinals don't have a history of cycling through coaches every year either. Deservedly fired or not, that has to weigh on the mind a bit also. Im of the opinion that our job isn't head and shoulders above the Arizona job as some may think

Based on all the media reports, Kubiak taking the Cards job would be like a repeat of this:

And that franchise qb (if he turns into one) isn't going to amount to anything if your trigger happy owner fires you after a year or two on the job because he isn't seeing the immediate results. All Im saying is we have an incompetent owner, some questions of power structure in the front office and a history of one or two years and done coaches. The 1 overall and cap space softens that somewhat but whether anyone wants to admit it or not, this is a bottom tier franchise until proven otherwise.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:44 am Believe it or not, I think our job definitely is head and shoulders above Arizona's. There's optimism for sure but optimism doesn't get you wins or Superbowl titles

While your point is valid, it appears this time could be different. Resignation to the fact that the past has not worked, it’s hopeful this franchise finally addresses the elephant in the room by going after and finally taking a shot at a Qb who seems to have the ability to lead this team away from the embarrassment it’s been for decades. Nothing is a sure thing except for doing nothing at all. It’s also hopeful we have a lead team of calculated, football smart individuals.Hellbound wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:56 am And that franchise qb (if he turns into one) isn't going to amount to anything if your trigger happy owner fires you after a year or two on the job because he isn't seeing the immediate results. Step one is declaring to Kubiak he has multiple years to right this ship with steady progress being achieved while also conveying in very strong terms Davis will step back on all decision making moving forward. Slide a blank check across the table. Assemble your staff as you see fit. Pick Mendoza.

I know plenty of people are saying that today's meeting is a nothingburger with everything already decided. I think there's going to be plenty of information from both sides. The Raiders have to provide a plan for stability and a good foundation to build upon. Mendoza is already know to be part of the plan, but how do they plan to build around him.Hellbound wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:56 am And that franchise qb (if he turns into one) isn't going to amount to anything if your trigger happy owner fires you after a year or two on the job because he isn't seeing the immediate results. Kubiak has to provide a plan for staff, and how he leads an entire team while still providing the details to the offense that made him a success in Seattle.
The first meeting would have been brief and superficial by comparison IMO. I think the money aspect has already been handled between the Raiders and the agent with salary and length of contract ranges well-established before either party got this far.

All good points. It's one thing to say the right things, that we all know to be right. It is another to convince Kubiak that you mean it and will live by it when push comes to shove.Viper wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 7:10 am While your point is valid, it appears this time could be different. I get it and that's why I added the optimism part. Im just as excited as the next person especially if Kubiak is in the fold. We're finally taking a swing on a qb, seemingly have a capable hc coming in and a ton of cap space. Hopefully a competent front office to go with everythingViper wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 7:10 am While your point is valid, it appears this time could be different. I guess with the direction of the franchise the past 30 some odd years, Im just expecting everything to fall apart and blow up in our faces. I am optimistic and see a light at the end of the tunnel that maybe this franchise is finally getting turned around. However I won't believe or buy into anything until I see results

You could use Gruden as the example. He wasn’t fired. Forced out by the league. Had plenty of longevity and security with an improving (albeit slowly) team year over year.chucker wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 7:17 am All good points. I think Gruden had a long runway to work with. I also think Mark's 20 year mancrush on him had something to do with that. And I think the fact that the three head coaches to follow him lasted a total of 4 seasons nullifies any perception of stability that the Gruden tenure might suggest. It's 4 head coaches since Gruden if you count Bisaccia, but I don't think interims are really relevant.Raidernation1979 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 7:50 am You could use Gruden as the example. I think the overall outside view is of instability for many years and the organization has to prove that the process has changed. Personally I believe it has changed, but maybe I'm just trying to convince myself.

Wait'll he finds out that 110 in the shade is a cool summer day in Phoenix.

He's so friggin good as a TV specialist, his value to the masses as greater there then in NC.
Basically we just sat in on a NFL classroom training session.

But for some reason the coaches he fired quick seemed to be the right move.Hellbound wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:56 am And that franchise qb (if he turns into one) isn't going to amount to anything if your trigger happy owner fires you after a year or two on the job because he isn't seeing the immediate results. Did anyone want to stay with McDouche, Peirce or Brennon Carrol?
I think it's a resounding no, so while it's costly to Mark and not great optics, those were still the right move.
He'll stick with a loser if they are holding the lockeroom and have signs of improving imo.

To be honest with ya, sitting here in west Michigan in single digit temps and nearly 3ft of snow, that sounds like paradise right now!raider_kin wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 8:12 am Wait'll he finds out that 110 in the shade is a cool summer day in Phoenix.
