Yeah, definitely Brady and not the Grand Poobah Nincompoop.Marzan wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 6:16 am LaFleur? Ejero? Joseph? Question is who wants to come. Maybe it’s true that candidates are a bit wary of having the goat QB looking over the shoulder?
If we haven’t hired anyone by the weekend, it means we’re all in on Kubiak and our brass thinks he’s game too. That’s a big gamble. Staffs are being filled up as we speak.

Agreed, with the ‘Hawks having the distinct advantage of seeing and talking to him everyday. Add to that the comfort level he probably has already being there.Corleone wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 5:26 am One thing you’re missing, there’s been reports that Seattle plans a full court press to keep Kubiak, but no report yet that he’s staying.
That could be a hint on who we’re hiring.
Only thing in our favor is I’m sure he wants his own gig at some point, but is he willing to risk us?

This is why guys who are still coaching should be allowed to accept jobs while still finishing the year out with their current team. An OC/DC candidate often can’t risk waiting around until the end of the hiring cycle on the promise/hope that a guy he knows is actually going to get one of the last jobs. It’s unfair.Marzan wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 6:16 am LaFleur? Ejero? Joseph? Question is who wants to come. Mind if I add narcissistic to his description?chucker wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 6:07 am I don't think that's close to the truth. I think Payton just looked at his staff and knew that he could lose both his pass game coordinator and run game coordinator to promotions if he kept Lombardi, and each of those guys is more valuable than Lombardi. Payton knows that when you're a smug egotistical HC who maintains a ton of control including the playcalling, all the decisions are on him and don't fall on his staff.

Two things might be true about the lack of information about a second Kubiak interview:
1. He might just be of the mind that he's going to give his full attention to his first chance at being part of a SB winning team and that if someone wants him to be HC, then they need to wait until that's done. An interview isn't just about the time it takes for the interview, in order to do it right then you need to prepare. You need to know the team you're interviewing with, you need to have a plan for a staff and need to contact potential staff members.
2. He has changed teams for the previous 4 offseasons and he might prefer to have one year where he stays put in the offseason. He is getting paid well, and about to be paid even more if he stays another season (obviously he'd get more money as a HC though). He has a good gig and probably likes his job. There's more in life than money and power.
My guess is that he wants a HC job someday, or he wouldn't have taken 6 interviews in the bye week while waiting to find out the next opponent. That week is different for an OC than this week is, because they didn't know their next opponent yet and couldn't game plan yet.

If your #2 scenario is true, and it very well could be, then Brady and Spytek failed MISERABLY. Again.chucker wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 6:54 am Two things might be true about the lack of information about a second Kubiak interview:

Its better to get the head coach right. If we miss out on some coordinators so be it. We can always change them next year but we have to get a head coach who at the very least can develop and build something with mendoza

This seems eerily similar to last year...then I think to myself surely after last years debacle they will have their shit together, and not be left in the corner with their thumb up their ass??

Offensive coordinators are as flammable as relief pitchers. They can be great one year and awful the next once DC's have them figured out. The big question is can they adjust once that happens.
Like in baseball sometimes relievers never figure it out, other times they learn a new pitch or rely on a different pitch more. The best OC's can do that.

I’m just worried we want Kubiak and are waiting for him and after the superbowl he will decide to just go back to SeattleDanKD wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 7:08 am Its better to get the head coach right. I don't remember last year's search for the Head Coach being as extensive as this year has been.pfish57 wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 7:34 am This seems eerily similar to last year...then I think to myself surely after last years debacle they will have their shit together, and not be left in the corner with their thumb up their ass??
