I really think that it is fairly impossible to say much about Ward. He had less than nothing to work with. Calvin Ridley 8s your best WR? Your no name TE leads in catches. The line was a good run blocking line, but they were awful in pass protection. For goodness sake we sacked him six times!

Even when he had a clean pocket, he was not great. Certainly in many QB classes he would have been far lower drafted. the RPO guys tend to fade away at the next level and Ward was and is a RPO guy.

You get a year to evaluate the guy and then you have more than enough capital to grab one of the highly rated guys next year if you decide you didn't get your guy. The most likely path to this would be for them to trade back a bit.
Yeah, the Jets could find this years (Slough from the Saints) and get him some playing time to build for the future.

I'm not entirely sure this is a fair evaluation. Ward ran the air raid system at Washington and Miami, similar to the one ran with Patrick Mahomes. While these are heavily reliant on RPO's, so is every college offensive system.

It would be hard to label 1 guy an RPO guy and label it as a negative, when almost no college teams run strict Pro Style Offenses any more. Almost every QB prospect runs an air raid or version of the spread, which are heavily reliant on shotgun and RPO's. Other than Burrow and Shaduer, I can't think of too many prospects the last 10 years that didn't run mostly RPO's.

With Moore dropping out and us moving down in the draft, we would have clearly missed out on Mendoza and looking at the BPA instead. A couple of those are WRs and we are much more in desperate need of linemen. The screw-ups on Chandler Jones, Christian Wilkins, and Tyree Wilson, means we are short of talent on the D-line. Depending on the likes of Putnam, Parham, and others stop-gaps to fuel a good running game has simply been a total bust. So, without owning the #1 pick, we would be looking at the best lineman available. Getting the potential "franchise" QB was such a need that, well, thank goodness we lost to the Giants.
Hey Pete we need a QB here's a 1y 15M contact. Just say

Regardless of the draft class I think Mendoza would grade in the top five.

That makes more sense to what I watched on the field this year vs if they were really trying to do well throughout.

Difference was that Mahomes took the time to learn a pro style offense. Ward thus far has not bothered. I watch a ton of the team since they are in my backyard. He is a poor man's Slash.

There's absolutely no guarantees. If the teams finishing in the top 5 picks feels those QB's have franchise potential the will not budge. The Jets have to make sure they finish with pick 1 or 2 if they wanna make sure

This is what's lost on the 'qb next year' mindset. If you have the 4th overall pick next year with three QB needy teams ahead of you, with three good QB prospects, you aren't getting a QB. You could have 5 first round picks in that draft and the teams ahead of you likely still don't budge. The position is that important. That's not even considering the benefit of cap/team building from a rookie QB contract

If there was a coach that did a worse job than Carroll this season it was Glenn. I have zero doubt he delivers them 1st overall next season. He’s not head coach material and his defenses for that matter are terrible as well. First team ever with no defensive interceptions is laughable.

Now that we are drafting Mendoza, it is pretty simple. Get a f[raiders_icon]cking genius QB coach. With very few exceptions, no QB is successful without that voice in his ear driving home what is next in your development. And when you do that, it is like a ball of string. You keep winding it over and over until you have created habits that drive success. Manning did not become Manning his first day in camp. He had the will to succeed but he did not have the blueprint. That is the QB coach. He creates the plan and walks the QB through that plan. Mahomes is one of the exceptions. He has a head coach who created the plan and it worked. We don't have that particular head coach so we need that from the QB coach.

Just to be clear are you talking Slash the HOF guitarist? Sort of curve-balled me on this one. Or ok, probably Kordell Stewert, I haven't heard that knick in a long time and forgot about it. Wow if he's just a poor mans Kordell he is the suck. I'd rather be known poor mans guitarist.

Its probably why the Jets havent fired thier HC. With Moore returning to school and no clear #2 QB in this draft, they'll need to suck again next season. May as well keep the coach that got them into the top 3.
Keep all your picks and draft a QB next year with thier own 1st pick.
