Ive seen alot of his passes between the seams in his Cal tape. Mendoza has a very strong arm, he can really put alot of zip on his throws when necessary.raiders93 wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 2:39 pm In his game specifically, there’s not a lot to pick on - he had some reps where he gets flustered by the passrush and can get a little lost in the pocket. Beyond that, nothing major.
His offence creates a lot of unknowns though. This is common for a lot of college QBs and Mendoza is no exception. Specifically, he ran almost exclusively out of the gun in an offence that spammed RPOs. He really heavily favours the sideline - you won’t find much tape of him targeting the intermediate center of the field. He’s not what you’d consider a high volume passer, averaging about 23-24 attempts per game. There hasn’t been a ton of games where he was under consistent pressure.
Again that’s not to say he can’t do these things - but there’s a reasonably significant element of his evaluation that is going to be based on projecting attributes rather than actual tape.
All that said, I think he’s an incredible prospect.

At Cal he faced a ton of pressure from pass rush. Why I like Mendoza so much is because he did well at a lesser school in Cal also.
My question was in regards to Indiana setting him up. They run the ball so damn well. It makes it easier. But with the RPO's he even deserves credit for that because he's reading the box & devising whether he's gonna give it off or keep it. But more so I realized how well he played at California. With a lesser team. That's all I needed to see. I saw him play there before I saw him in a Hoosier uniform. It took me a minute to connect the dots that it was the same Mendoza

There's an old adage..."A bird in the hand is better than two in a bush." If they want Mendoza, they have that in their hand (provided he declares and does not return to Indiana). If they pass on him by drafting someone else at # 1 or trade down to garner more picks, there is no guarantee that the birds in the bush can be caught. If they believe he is their franchise QB, they don't need to overthink this. Its not complicated.rcraider wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 10:22 pm Hondo interviews Mr Bread and Breakfast - Tom Walsh - some draft talk - Mendoza etc, usual Hondo drivel
Walsh seems to lead more into trading the pick and getting a haul for it.
He likes Mendoza but thinks the Raiders have to many holes to fill.
He says Mendoza best in this class but has gotten calls from others to check out other QBs in the 2027 class that may grade out higher.

Burrow came out of nowhere.Attyla wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 4:35 am Mendoza was not on anyone's radar at the beginning of the season. And Indiana was ranked very low in the top 20 among teams. It is a crap shoot to say any one will emerge next year or that multiple players will emerge next year. Sellers in particular could blow up or die on the vine. Allar was supposed to be the guy who would take it to the next level. We saw what happened there. Not saying any of these guys can become what Mendoza became but football is a funny sport in that regard.
Daniels rocketed up the draft.
Cam Ward did as well.

The only Oregon player i was bummed about going back to school was there center Iapani Laloulu as I would have loved to get him on our line
I do wonder how much Laloulu going back helped with Moore’s decision to go back, when your starting center is staying it does mean there is no learning curve to overcome with new personnel & you can jump right back in to where you left off
I kind of like the fact Moore didn't declare simply because it means there can be no interview or pro day altering incident that sways us off Mendoza

Mateer returning to school. 2027 NFL draft could have a record number of QBs coming off the board in the first

Another way to look at next year's draft in terms of QBs, IF we indeed go ahead and select Mendoza and he is legit...a lot of good players will be pushed down by teams picking QBs while we already have ours.

How much does he have to hit though? If he plays as well as Cam Ward is that good enough? I didn't think Ward looked like a total bust (his ball security was solid for a rookie QB) but he also didn't flash like you would hope of a 1st overall pick. His QBR was pretty poor but to be fair he didn't have a lot to work with as the Titans have the worst offensive personnel in the NFL.

For those who care I saw on Reddit Carrbage on his podcast says we should not draft Mendoza. He says team isn’t ready for a qb.

Carr still has some raiders supporters. He knows with Mendoza he will be quickly forgotten and the last remaining carr love will fade.

Hot sure. Ward looked horrible to start the year, it kind of started clicking for him later? If Mendoza played like Ward I would probably grab another one but I don't see that happening. But always look to your fall back position as neededheavyD wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 7:31 am How much does he have to hit though? If he plays as well as Cam Ward is that good enough? This is why I wouldn't rule out taking a QB if I was the Jets. You get a year to evaluate the guy and then you have more than enough capital to grab one of the highly rated guys next year if you decide you didn't get your guy. The most likely path to this would be for them to trade back a bit.Attyla wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 6:55 am And if Mendoza does not hit, we have another shot to fix things

I am just so, so happy that we did not win one more game -- the implications are obvious and the result would have been almost devastating to us fans. With Moore dropping out and us moving down in the draft, we would have clearly missed out on Mendoza and looking at the BPA instead. A couple of those are WRs and we are much more in desperate need of linemen. The screw-ups on Chandler Jones, Christian Wilkins, and Tyree Wilson, means we are short of talent on the D-line. Depending on the likes of Putnam, Parham, and others stop-gaps to fuel a good running game has simply been a total bust. So, without owning the #1 pick, we would be looking at the best lineman available. Getting the potential "franchise" QB was such a need that, well, thank goodness we lost to the Giants.
