Without a QB in place and picking middle-ish of the 1st, probalby not too attractive. However, the Steelers are the model of consistency for decades. It's going to be a tough go out of the gate.heavyD wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 1:14 pm How attractive is the Steelers job? Going 10-7 with no starting QB is considered failure by the fans and media. Seems like a hopeless situation to me. I’m sure there’s the feeling that the new coach will be afforded more patience than any other organization but it’s easy to be patient when you never have 4 win seasons. I look at that aging roster with no starting QB and wonder who would want to go there as it’s pretty bleak.

There is no guarantee for longevity. If new HC keeps them just around or above 500 (10-6) make the playoffs then bow out, wash, rinse and repeat, they will dump him just like Tomlin no matter how much that organization tries to spin it that “he stepped down”. lolALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 12:30 pm Tomlin just stepped down in Pittsburgh. This throws another wrench in the coaching search as the Steeler job could be considered a great opportunity since you you are guaranteed longevity.
Also, if players don’t get to liking the new HC, he’ll be jettisoned in a few years. Zero reservations, that it is a desirable team to go to, but in the end, there are no guarantees.

Exactly it just amounts to 3 good coaches that won't be coming here lol, wish he would have stayed!ALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 12:59 pm No ones talking about Tomlin coming to the Raiders, but the Steeler job is now open and may steer away a potential candidate from the Raiders because of their history of longevity.
That is what I'm talking about..

If a coach wants longevity, he absolutely needs to identify the challenges in building a winning program. Don't come in like Pete Carroll saying that "if you hire me we're gonna compete right away". Drafting Mendoza doesn't likely make that happen. It worked with Daniels and Stroud and new staffs. It didn't work with Joe Burrow, who's better than either guy IMO. If the Raiders don't like that and don't hire you, then I'd say you're better off.ALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 1:13 pm I get that...but the guy who looks at Mendoza, Bowers, Jeanty, Maxx, 9 other draft picks, and over $100 million in cap space and he just wants to work with all that and win..may also be looking at having the time to do this based in the Raider recent coaching turnover. I'm playing devils advocate here, what else do we have to talk about..Marks barber?
The process is what matters in 2026 IMO. I expect losses to come, but I want a professional organization that's building to something and growing together. I don't think Mendoza is going to be a world beater right away because he can't rely on athleticism to make up for a lack of NFL experience.

Longevity???
Win games. Show progress as a team through the season. Show leadership and command respect. Make sure your staff is on the same page as you. Make sure your staff is competent. You run the team.... not the players.
It really shouldn't be that hard.
I have read a couple of articles where Amy Trask said there is some internal strife within the organization concerning Jim Gray. Do any of you know anything about this?

I would think the Steelers job wouldn’t be that high on the best jobs list. QB uncertainty at best.

Good point, we're used to seeing it with dysfunctional teams rather than successful ones.chucker wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:38 am I understand that concept. Which young QB are you thinking of whose rapid development was interrupted by the departure of an OC who left for a HC job? I get the theory, but I'm struggling to find much actual history to support it. Mac Jones comes to mind, but IMO he was really just ok as a rookie and his OC was replaced by Matt Patricia...... which seemed moronic even before we saw the results. I guess Steichen leaving could be connected to Hurts' decline the following year but the Eagles actually had an offensive head coach.
It's probably a combination of that bad team rookie development issue + recently seeing Ben Johnson & Liam Coen immediately leave to have success (while their old teams clearly are worse off without them.)
A layering of concerns I'd say. Signs of a desperate fanbase who finally sees a little light and doesn't want to f[raiders_icon]ck it up

Completely agree. I think one of the reasons Tomlin decided to move on is because he just doesn't want to deal with and go through a complete rebuild.heavyD wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 1:14 pm How attractive is the Steelers job? This is also why I really don't understand why some have Pittsburgh as the third best spot for a new Head Coach.

Jesus Christ. As some know, im local to Philly. The fans and local media here CAN NOT STAND Patullo. To the point where fans egged his house and there were weekly 'Fire Kevin Patullo' banners everywhere. He absolutely RUINED that offense and I'm sorry, if they hired him, I will be done. And I guarantee most of you won't be far behind me.
