There is, it's called watching the game and using your eyes. He was good in one game, and not good in two others. 1 out of 3 isn't going to cut it, but hey, 5 or 6 wins should be great for the non doom and gloom crowd, those unhappy with that are just bitter losers.ToastPatterson wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:36 pm There needs to be a metric (there probably is) that qualifies competitive statistics vs garbage time totals.
Wasn't thrilled about the Pete hire, and hated the Geno trade. So we either blame Pete for hiring his son to coach our OL, or we blame Geno, or we can say both are shitty and we need to do better. I'm favoring the third option.- These users gave a High Five to the author Corleone for the post (total 5):

I made no excuses. I stated my opinion. You calling my opinion an excuse does not make it so. And I never argued that he is a rookie. Don't make an argument from something I never said.

I've never been super impressed with Pete. His teams always seemed to lack something. Don't get me wrong, the LoB was awesome but his teams kind of seemed like if Beastmode didn't go off the offense failed to do much. Good coach and the best we've had in a long while? Sure is....innovative, elite, top tier hc? I don't think he is. I was hoping to take a chance on a young & innovative offensive minded hc this go aroundCorleone wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 2:44 am There is, it's called watching the game and using your eyes. I blame the oline issues on lack of talent and coaching. I have my doubts Chip would've hired Pete's kid as oline coach and I say the Jeanty pick had Pete's finger prints all over it. Obviously the Geno trade did. Is this going to be yet another situation where the hc has way too much control?

The thing that gets me about Carroll is we know he wasn't our first choice at HC. We definitely settled. He has done ZERO thus far to impress me and imo has made some crucial bad decisions. We shall see if he can right the ship but I'm not holding my breath based on what I've seen so far.

I still don't think Johnson was our first choice either. He only did a courtesy interview to begin with. I think the top choice was Vrable. I think MD said in an interview that they wanted a hc but that was scooped up pretty fast. Im paraphrasing that. Maybe he was alluding to Johnson but he obviously wasn't hired yet. That's what makes me think Vrable was their top targetBoKnows81 wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 4:45 am The thing that gets me about Carroll is we know he wasn't our first choice at HC. He very well could of been. But I think johnson would of been #2 then. Which would of made Pete #3. Not good. My personal gripe with Pete prior to the season was his age. I thought the game passed him by. I did think he would have the team playing hard but short term only. Then the draft happened and we didn't address the line aggressively enough. Then the season started and we look lost.Hellbound wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 4:50 am I still don't think Johnson was our first choice either. He only did a courtesy interview to begin with. As I said in another thread, or maybe this one, we have no idea who was building the draft board or who was calling the ultimate shots. There are so many alpha dogs in that room it all gets lost as to who made the calls. Certainly Pete had his say as did the GM and the coordinators. I tend to think, given how we ultimately drafted, that Kelly was heavily influencing the outcomes. Just my opinion but that seems to be a Kelly draft at key moments.BoKnows81 wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 4:57 am He very well could of been. But I think johnson would of been #2 then. Idk. Bech and Porter seem like Pete picks to me. But yes, we truly do not know for sure.Attyla wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 5:45 am As I said in another thread, or maybe this one, we have no idea who was building the draft board or who was calling the ultimate shots. It's off topic, but damn, it really grinds my gears when I hear/read people say that he was the best QB in Raiders history. It's 100% based on misleading stats.rcraider wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 11:37 pm A certain QB made a living off of garbage time stats, and holds the team franchise records
Anyway, Geno's on a Jameis run right now. 30 for 30 is great when its attempts and completions, but not when it's 30 picks and 30 TDs.

I still find it hard to properly evaluate the QB or RB in this offense given the futility of this OL. Tom Brady and Barry Sanders in their prime years would struggle behind an OL this bad.
All of that said have no problem evaluating the coaching staff and they get a solid F grade for the handling of the OL from the coaching to the handling of personnel starting with JPJ and Meredith as this science project has been a complete failure. More should be expected of a veteran coaching staff.

He may have not been our first choice but the first choice wouldn't talk to us.BoKnows81 wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 4:45 am The thing that gets me about Carroll is we know he wasn't our first choice at HC. That's like saying my wife wasn't my first love/want, but hey that person didn't want me. So I settled for my wife? What was I supposed to do, kidnap the other person? Both this person and my meeting my wife was years apart, it wasn't like they were both standing there and I took my wife as consolation. Settle is a funny word. Almost all people settle. I settled for my job, my house, my cae yada yada.
When one decides to "settle down" is that in itself settling?

Geno Carr had two of his three TD after they were down 34-10. Carrbage time stats deluxe. But 289 yards and 3 TD look impressive, however, most came after the game was lost. We’ve seen this movie before.ToastPatterson wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:36 pm There needs to be a metric (there probably is) that qualifies competitive statistics vs garbage time totals.

You must be thinking of "your boy"....He also needed a change of shorts at the slightest hint of pressure unless he was wearing the red jersey.
