I will give AP some credit as the team played hard for him which is half the battle and I think he would be a good guy to have on any coaching staff, just not in a head coach role.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 4:52 am Pierce, though I like him more as a defensive coach, clearly showed that he was not up for the job of HC before he was shown the door...and I doubt he has gained any more experience by sitting on the sidelines for the last year.

Same here...I always admired his tenacity and intensity as a player and he seems to bring that trait to his coaching.heavyD wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 7:19 am I will give AP some credit as the team played hard for him which is half the battle and I think he would be a good guy to have on any coaching staff, just not in a head coach role.
AP's problem with the Raiders is that he simply did not have the experience to make the big jump to HC...not to mention his problems with game and clock management.

Doesn't mention Raiders for Stefanski's second interviews (or that we even interviewed him).

A very young coach named Davis just makes sense for the Raiders.

None of us know what actually went on behind the scenes of Tomlin leaving the Steelers.
Is it possible that he really wants some time away?...Yup. Is it possible that the Steelers asked him to resign so that they might be able to get something from the team that resigns him?...Yup (if it's legal? and mutually agreed)
Is it also possible that Tomlin simply wants people to think he wants some time away so another team may over-pay to draw him out of "retirement"?...Yup
* This is only the "voices" in my head talking...and oh, no animals were harmed in the making of this post.

A question about Davis Webb. Does anyone know if he has a playbook? Does he draw up plays? Is he known as an X’s & O’s guy?
I get that people talk great about him. He’s well respected. Can command a room. Is a great QB whisperer &, teacher, etc etc. & I have a good feeling about him as well. People talk about him a possible OC…but I haven’t heard anything about him being an innovative, genius offensive mind who can create/or has created a playbook? What offensive scheme does he run?
Maybe I missed those reports. I’m just asking cause, I actually wanna like him more. & if he is known as an offensive guru who can be an OC, then he likely would be my fav HC candidate.

Creating a basic playbook shouldn’t be difficult. I would imagine if he has one already done. I would mostly mirror Sean Payton. The good ones are always tweaking and twisting it anyway.MexicanHulk wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 10:25 am A question about Davis Webb. Does anyone know if he has a playbook? Does he draw up plays? It was time from all pov's. Ownership, personal, fans.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 10:17 am None of us know what actually went on behind the scenes of Tomlin leaving the Steelers.
We might be here thinking "He good", fans were beyond tired of the new 1 and out Gang. (Loved when this was the Cheifs, max pain!)
Most caoches don't survive 1/2 what they went through there.
Steelers ownership will stick with you, but you never know a twist of fate and stretch of bad years and then they will be a team with a coaching carousel. None of this is in stone and is cyclical, they are ready for a shit decade or two any time.
But all fans will want deep playoff runs and SB wins quick enough once you are competitive and not doing either gets fans ancy fast.

Creating a basic one isn’t that hard for these coaches but, we don’t want a basic HC. We don’t want a basic OC. Those fail & fail miserably, if that’s all they got. I’m wondering if he’s known or talked about as a offensive genius who can put together a “great” playbook, be a “great” play caller &, a “great” teacher of said scheme.
Shanahan, McVey, Ben Johnson, were known to do be that.
I’m asking if Webb has this outlook/projection as well. Cause if not, then he’d be a Siriani type. A Dan Campbell type. Really good leaders of men but, when their OC/DC’s leave &, not replaced with high quality coordinators, the team falls off big time. I’d be less enthusiastic if he falls into this category of HC.

It sounds like Webb's greatest strengths are more about people and leadership as opposed to scheme and x's and o's. That wouldn't worry me. I look forward to the day that our coordinators get poached for HC jobs because their side of the ball is so successful that they are hailed as geniuses.

Oh, I’d look forward to those days as well since, it would mean we have a great team. But doesn’t take away the fact that, it could severely hurt us some years. More than most teams because, we’d have to constantly worry about losing both coordinators. As opposed to one, if the HC is the genius & play caller of one side of the ball.chucker wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 11:07 am It sounds like Webb's greatest strengths are more about people and leadership as opposed to scheme and x's and o's. As a former QB he memorized complex playbooks. I am sure he can assist in play design. I cannot imagine he has no say in the pass playbook design. You do not elevate to his level without some creativity.MexicanHulk wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 11:09 am Oh, I’d look forward to those days as well since, it would mean we have a great team.
