I'm interested in mocks not to see what player they pick, but to hear the discussion around the pick.
We should all anticipate some prospect fatigue along the way too - Mendoza is most "experts'" #1 right now, but a bunch of people will overthink it and call him too mechanical etc by the time the draft rolls around. Peyton Manning was also too mechanical.

Yea, the scouts are who people should be listening to, not the mock draft guys. Scouts tend to take bias out of the process. They try to take the uniform out of the equation. The college colors can create a bias that you do find with certain mock drafters, and those guys like the power conferences. A scout, if they are good at their job, do not see school or conference.

I think he’s in the middle of 1st overall picks.
I like a tall QB. I’d take his height alone over Kyler’s mobility.
He’s also accurate. Caleb can’t hit the broadside of a barn. Does Caleb’s mobility outweigh Fernando’s accuracy?
We aren’t drafting him because he’s an Elway level prospect. It’s because of the human being, the intellect, the competitiveness, and the teammate. As such, while he may not be the overall prospect these guys are, I don’t see his ceiling as any less.

I doubt that anyone thinks Simpson would be in the mix for us..... but here it is:

AOC has outperformed the last three starting QB’s that the braintrusts have brought in. He’s easily one of the top backups in the NFL and on a rookie contract. It’s a no-brainer to keep him. It’s very unlikely that the new HC and team will be telling media that “we expect to win” in the 2026 season. That’s what got Carroll fired and the Raiders at 32nd.raidersince63 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 4:55 am Assuming that we land Mendoza and AOC will be retained and listed as "QB2" (and I don't think he should be), that would not give me a "warm and fuzzy feeling".
For me, if our QB1 becomes unable to play due to injury, our #2 QB should be able to assume the duties of the position and at a bare minimum, be able to keep the team competitive, and though I like the kid, AOC does not provide that at all.
In other words, there should not be such a huge drop off between our starter vs AOC as our backup QB,

There seems to be this idea that Moore is the super athletic very mobile qb with some people, but when you watch him play he's not really a runner or particularly fast. He plays very much in the pocket.Arsenal Raider wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:43 pm People keep saying Moore is more talented, more mobile, and has a higher ceiling... I don't see it at all.
Especially in the games last weekend, Mendoza looked levels above Moore in all categories.
I really think people are projecting what they want to see on these guys. Mendoza looks closer to Drake Maye than Goff in play style.
We'll see.

He has a better deep ball, he just needs to get more touch on those passestatalalicious wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:34 am There seems to be this idea that Moore is the super athletic very mobile qb with some people, but when you watch him play he's not really a runner or particularly fast. Simpson declaring for the draft does not change a thing for me. Moore to the Jets and Simpson can go to the Cardinals.

i'd like to see that whole qb room cleared out. including aoc.
unless the $$$ has been spent elsewhere and there is no choice but to keep him on the roster as a backup.

I don't know where to put this so I'll just drop it here..not advocating for Simpson but it's definitely of importance as I know a few of you are..

Even if the Raiders were offered a haul like that they shouldn't take it. Time to get that franchise qb they been missing since Gannon's stint with the team.CWood24 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 2:25 am I keep hearing all this talk about Moore’s arm talent & mobility but if that was thing that made you successful then Anthony Richardson would be all pro instead of riding the bench
Football IQ always seems to take a backseat when discussing QB’s strength whereas arm strength tends to be out front & centre
I tend to agree with Joe Montana’s take on arm strength being an overrated trait in the NFL & that the likes of timing, accuracy & being able to read a defence is far more important in the pro’s
Mendoza has all the mental & technical traits you’d want in a franchise QB with the functional
mobility to make plays when need, i can’t see how we would pass on him unless your offering us a Ricky Williams / Herschel Walker-esqe haul which no team is going to do nowadays

Simpson declaring changes things for other teams who are drafting top 10, but it does not change a thing for us.

Simpson looked broken vs Indiana. Not fair to judge on one game but it was ugly.Attyla wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:54 am Simpson declaring for the draft does not change a thing for me. Moore to the Jets and Simpson can go to the Cardinals.

IF Mendoza and Moore stay in school, do The Raiders take Simpson at #1 or trade down and select a QB later?
