Looking forward to seeing a competently run team. It’s been so long though I'm not sure we know what that looks like.
Pete Carroll generally doesn’t call the plays he lets his coordinators do that like Dan Campbell does for the Lions
Pete is more of a strategist type, which i think works in the NFL pretty well. So i can him leaving scheme upto them aswell.
Whilst his OC & DC are getting the players ready he is looking at the strengths & weaknesses of the opposition to devise a plan to negate those strengths whilst taking advantage of the chink in the armour he can see.
I think the days of HC calling plays is slowly coming to an end & we’re rolling more to the OC /DC play calling
Yes but thing is that Graham is a 3-4 coach. If they were really planning to let the DC run things his way then we would be running a 3-4. We signed signed three veteran linebackers. Maybe all three of them will start in a 4-3 under scheme?

Singing 3 veteran linebackers does ‘t really mean anything for the scheme. Robert's probably starts but at this point in there careers White & Smith are depth at best or dare i say it camp fodder

Every year since, we've pretty much run a 4-2-5 base, but we've always ran a 4 man pass rush when the game was still on the line, we've gone to 3 man pass rushes when we're up by 2-3 scores.
Carroll usually ran a 4-3 or 3-4 hybrids, whichever you want to call it. The LEO is the spot where we move into a more hybrid spot. He always had that speed DE/LB edge rusher, so some will say oh, that's a 4-3, some will say that's a 3-4. Now with the passing game, we've gone to a 2 maximum LB on the field in the last 2-3 seasons. I would think that base is going to continue, thus Jeremy Chinn starting in another hybrid role, that of a S/LB. It's quite a bit confusing when depth charts are put out or starting lineups are posted on the TV as to how to label players. End of day base will be 4-2-5. With a dime of 4-1-6. Now who gets the Spillane role of playing all snaps? Hard to say.

We shifted to a 4-3 defense because Maxx is at his best in that system. We, like all teams, run variety of sets during a game and with our weaker LB position we have utilized more safety packages dropping out one of the LBs quite a bit but the base has been the 4-3

We still had Reggie Kinlaw manning the Middle Guard spot. We drafted Mike Wise/Scott Davis stacking it on top of Howie, Pickel and Townsend in 1990 is when we changed to the 4-3.

I didn't remember them playing 3-4 after Hendricks retired, but you are absolutely right.

The Raiders won their first superbowl using a 3-4 defense. I was a great fan of it for a very long time until I realized that cover 3 was a more balanced type of defense. Graham is clearly a 3-4 coach. You can tell that by the way he scouts defensive linemen. Since he's been here he's been ordered to run a four man front. He just knows how to handle linebackers and Carroll knows how to handle defensive backs. As for Leonard I am not impressed with his resume. He doesn't seem to have a good reputation when it comes to handling defensive linemen. Any success he's had as a Raider Coach may be considered a fluke.
This will be year 3 under Patrick Graham, so all of the kinks should technically be ironed out by now.
Agreed. I don't dislike Graham..... but, I'm not quite sure he's what people seem to think he is. I will be quite happy to know I'm wrong.
