Quit making things up, I've been engaging the whole time and you know it...you simply refuse to accept Kelly is a first ballot HOFer and totally discount the HOF voters over 1 coach. You also bash Kelly for losing 4 SBs (team losses) while refusing to give him credit for helping to guide his team to 4 straight SBs.Willmark wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 2:01 pm Nice refusal to engage in the point of the argument but to be expected.

Can't like this enough. It is an absolute crime that Ken Anderson is not in.Reno Hightower wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 2:13 pm Bradshaw was like Plunkett. He couldn't care less about completion percentages or passer rating. It was all about hitting the big throws. Pressure passing. As I have gotten older I have come to appreciate this QB philosophy more. I wish the NFL would come up with metrics that emphasized that more in a stat happy passing era. I mean baseball has its deadfall era and judges players with that criteria when evaluating careers.
I will say this, I think most QB's in Canton deserve to be there but there are QB's that were left out despite being better than many wearing gold blazers. Ken Anderson comes to mind and I believe a better argument can be raised for Jim Plunkett than some that are enshrined.
As to Plunkett? Which is it HOF voters? Oh you've "spoken" that losing four consecutive super bowls merits the HOF, but winning two does not?
Yeah OK...

Kenny played in a place that just did not garner enough attention.Willmark wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 2:52 pm Can't like this enough. It is an absolute crime that Ken Anderson is not in.

Yet you still stand on the hill will nothing but the opinion of a coach who can't even get an NFL job so he ends up up at UNC instead...how compelling...Yeah, OK.

Certainly played into it.Attyla wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 3:47 pm Kenny played in a place that just did not garner enough attention.
But Kenny was the first real WC QB after the injury to Greg Cook derailed him. (Carter was efficient and the true first one, but it took off under Anderson). Anderson's stats stand up fairly well for the era.
Kenny was money, plus he had an epic mustache.

Tim Brown was like #2 in all the major WR stats and wasn't first ballot and the person above him was all world, nearly like a Chamberlain or Petty was Rice. I never really got that one.RN4L75 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 8:08 am I believe at the time of retirement Tarkenton held a lot of the all time QB records, passing yards, TD's, wins, rushing yards. That seems to be HOF worthy after the 5 year wait.

Speaking of Greg Cook, what a tragedy. That guy looked like a legit generational QB.Willmark wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 3:58 pm Certainly played into it.

Thinking on Plunkett and Anderson more, in the case of Plunkett, his career stats are up and down: more INTs then TDs, but consider:
Plunkett
Heisman Trophy winner - 1970
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year - 1971
NFL Comeback Player of the Year - 1980
Super Bowl XV MVP - 1980
Two-time Super Bowl champion - XV and XVIII
That is fairly unique, no other QB I can think of had that like Plunkett.
Kenny Anderson
4× first-team All-Pro
4× Pro Bowl
NFL MVP - 1981
Comeback Player of the Year - 1981
Led the NFL in passer rating 4 times
Led the NFL in completion percentage 3 times
Led the NFL in passing yards twice
Led the NFL in passing TDs once
Career passer rating: 81.9. For that era it was very good.
Super Bowl XVI
Ran the original Bill Walsh offense that ultimately became the West Coast system.
Those two are obvious omissions and really throw a wrench into the HOF criteria.

His injury created the WC offense because Virgil Carter's arm wasn't like Cook's (no one's was). So by necessity, Walsh had to figure something out.Reno Hightower wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 4:11 pm Speaking of Greg Cook, what a tragedy. That guy looked like a legit generational QB.
In steps Kenny Anderson.
I don't have it in front of me but Walsh later said something along the lines of if Cook had not gotten hurt the WC offense would have been very different with him running it.

I'm not seeing how people will be aged out of for good? There's no limit on Seniors..it will be about lobbying for them to get in. Theres no enough modern day players who are good enough to fill out 13 spots every year.Attyla wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 8:54 am The take away is the older players who aged out before will be aged out for good. Realistically, Stabler would not have been inducted. Craig would not have gotten in. Guy would not have made it. Essentially, unless you are relevant now, you lost your window. McMichael would have been on the outside looking in.
I get it, though. Most of the guys on the senior list were fringe options when they were eligible or they would have gotten in. But claiming you are removing bias from the process is a farce. Bias will always play a part in a HOF selection process.

Because every year the group of newer options loggerjam. The older guys who were fringe options will be pushed out by newer options. The voters are going to remember the newer guys influence far more than guys like PlunkettALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 5:08 pm I'm not seeing how people will be aged out of for good? Does the HOF have a "Veteran's Committee" like MLB?...if not, they should.
