Rogers and Grant... what do we have there?
I remember seeing something a couple weeks ago that Rogers in his first start had graded out as our best lineman. How has he done since that first start?
How did Grant do? Kyle Long was very complimentary of Grant yesterday.
Real question is... are we as bad, and as desperate for help on 0-line as we think we are, or was a lot of that just bad personnel discissions and coaching by Pete and his kid.
If Rogers and Grant can play, along with moving JPJ back to center, maybe the o-line isn't as needy as we think.
Obviously, we look for help, but maybe not a total overhaul.

Coogan seems like one of those guys that’ll come tot he NFL, get a starting job & quietly play for years never getting any plauditsraidersince63 wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 5:47 pm Pat Coogan, transferred from Notre Dame to Indiana

Just a sample of what this road grader of a Center is capable of;
From what i’ve seen on him his weaknesses are very fixable as he seems to let’s the technical side get away from him as the play goes on
High football IQ, good size, hands & footwork are all good i would throw one of our 4th round picks at him even if he doesn't start he’d be a familiar face for Mendoza to work along side
Centre seems to be the most underrated position in football, i don’t no why because they are key to running your offence & the gateway to your QB

Coaching, playing calling, playing time.
We can’t properly evaluate our rookie linemen because they haven’t been given enough playing time, the proper coaching and our offensive scheme has been abysmal. Defenses loaded the box knowing we couldn’t throw, making our run game ineffective.
Maybe we have some talent to work with but it’s almost impossible to determine without putting it on the field in game situations. Not preseason, not garbage time. Real games that matter.
And part of being a successful nfl offense is being creative which masks weaknesses elsewhere. Slow defensive talent down by making them think, a handful of plays every game outside the box of what you normally run.
Outside of Qb, it all starts up front. We just don’t know what we don’t know because they haven’t been given enough actual game time experience.

We may know if the coaching hadn't been so inept this year.

If we, by miracle signed Linderbaum, how would that shake out the current players on the oline as to positions etc?

I don't worry too much about how the positions shake out. I want more competition. If you can confidently pick the starting 5 - you probably don't have enough competition.
After watching the Chargers get their asses kicked, and knowing that they also have a ton of cap space, I think they might be a very big bidder for Linderbaum.

Way too early to determine. With a whole new staff coming in, some of these guys may not even be on the team.Rabidraider wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 5:42 am If we, by miracle signed Linderbaum, how would that shake out the current players on the oline as to positions etc?

This ^^^ ...we need to keep this in mind when we try to evaluate the talent on our roster.Goodlukchuck wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 4:37 am We may know if the coaching hadn't been so inept this year.
Management put the "funk" in "dysfunctional" last year.

Brennan Carroll would have sculpted Coogan into a perennial All-Pro.CWood24 wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 2:26 am Coogan seems like one of those guys that’ll come tot he NFL, get a starting job & quietly play for years never getting any plaudits

Given the coaching was so bad that the OL, QB, and RB were meeting in private to try and figure out blocking, I would expect a competent new OL coach should be a massive upgrade on its own. I’m on board with offering Linderbaum a big deal but I don’t want the team blowing all the cap space on free agents (it’s an weak free agency class for OL) until they find out what they have under competent coaching.

In my opinion, If we sign Linderbaum....i'm still drafting two, if not 3 OL.Rabidraider wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 5:42 am If we, by miracle signed Linderbaum, how would that shake out the current players on the oline as to positions etc?
JPJ would LG and only LG.
I'd love to draft the OT/OG Gennings Dunker of Texas or Cayden Green of Missouri and play at RG.
I'd also like to get Caleb Tiernam of Northwestern, Max Iheanachor of Arizona State, Blake Miller of Clemson or Monroe Freeling of Georgia (if he comes out) for RT
I wouldn't mind taking Brian Parker II of Duke or Jake Slaughter of Florida, depending on the round that they are available.

Add a solid center. A FA right tackle and let the draft fall to you for BPA.

Unfortunately, because of Pete, we do not know what we have with Rogers or Grant. We would be foolish to pencil them in as anything more than back ups. If they eventually pan out, great. However, I would hate to have the success of our prized possessions (Bowers, Jeanty, and Mendoza) rely on them.

Like every other year the new coaches evaluate players face to face AFTER free agency and the draft.BoKnows81 wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 5:59 am Way too early to determine. With a whole new staff coming in, some of these guys may not even be on the team.
