Rogers and Grant... what do we have there?
I remember seeing something a couple weeks ago that Rogers in his first start had graded out as our best lineman. How has he done since that first start?
How did Grant do? Kyle Long was very complimentary of Grant yesterday.
Real question is... are we as bad, and as desperate for help on 0-line as we think we are, or was a lot of that just bad personnel discissions and coaching by Pete and his kid.
If Rogers and Grant can play, along with moving JPJ back to center, maybe the o-line isn't as needy as we think.
Obviously, we look for help, but maybe not a total overhaul.

I agree. And the same thought regarding the receivers picked in 2025. How much were they coached considering Carroll was against playing the rookies?Raider_Dave wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 11:15 am I remember seeing something a couple weeks ago that Rogers in his first start had graded out as our best lineman. Good thread.
Raiders generally have a young roster. The incoming coaches have their work cut out for them determining who is developing and who isnt making the cut. Last season has made it difficult to determine what was bad coaching vs bad talent.

...these are all the points which have fueled what some of us have implied for a while now, regarding their being (possibly) some more talent at our disposal that what seemd to be the case with the bumbling clipster and his kid o line coach making everyone, including geno, look worse, than was necessary.
...a lot of those picks were viewed as having been good value at the time, and while that doesn't mean a whole lot until they show something in this league, there were either put in an impossible position to do so, or were not put in that position at all....and the boneheads ruining that offense last year made career guys like geno look like complete shit..... and while what I took from the geno experiment is that he certainly does have a lot of quit in him, which makes him a phony, in my book, regardless of the circumstance, as I think there were (are) better ways to handle that trd show, when in his position, rather than simply melting, I views this last year as a waster when it comes to making any true assessment of the future prospects of those lineman and receivers.

I think having Rogers and Grant on the roster is a real positive in building the oline group. Neither one should be penciled in as a presumptive starter (like Glaze was this year) such that you don't work your ass off to bolster the room and improve the overall talent level. Personally I don't believe that moving JPJ back to center is a magic elixir and I think he's better suited for the more smashmouth position of guard and it's also a position where it's much more seamless to sub someone in if there's an injury. But regardless, I think having JPJ on the roster is also a real positive.
I would just pay Linderbaum. And I'd try to bring in real competition at RT, whether it's through the draft or FA.

What we need is to add two high quality players to the line and give young guys a chance to develop. What we dont need is more cappas, older guys who arent very good.

Rodgers and Grant should have been playing mid season. Instead we watched Forsythe and Putnam be constantly out of position and get thrown to the ground on multiple occasions and were told the rookies weren't ready..

Its to bad Papa was stubborn in regards to the pups. Unfortunately, this is what you get when you hire an old coach. We wasted a year of development. I was really looking forward to seeing what a few guys could do.

I believe the general consensus, is OLine needs a major re-do. You'd like to get some certainty in there. We have pieces.
Kolton LT - up in age, so a successor should be in house and developing - Grant, maybe.
Parham LG - FA and we have had our struggles in short yardage for years now. He's one of the constants, let him walk. I have seen, lets try DJ Glaze at LG, will his power translate in comparison to a guy like Becton, where short yardage is not an issue?
JPJ C - I'd move him back to C. Give Mendoza a monster to feel comfortable with. Again short yardage is an issue, hopefully staff gives him things to work on his strength. Meredith backs up.
Rogers RG - Penciled in incumbent starter. Cappa on 2nd year of 2 year deal, will be back to backup. Yes, depth is needed here, FA signing, but a higher caliber player than Cappa. Becton was 9M per, as sort of the mark.
Glaze RT - I'd dip into FA again to find a higher end RT and move Glaze inside. Maybe Grant starts here, while Kolton keeps LT warm for him.
So that's 6 bodies. I'd dip into the market for a high caliber T and IOL. Possibly even follow that up with a draft pick to develop.

I'm sure I won't get much agreement on this, but I'd hang onto Cappa for depth for the moment. You might let him go after the draft or camp anyway, but IMO it's best to use the contract flexibility we have in our favor. Maybe some things fall through and you need the extra body along the way. Ideally you cut him because you've improved the roster but I'd wait to confirm that instead of dumping him ASAP.

Agreed. You don’t make any cuts until necessary. I don’t think cappa should be in the roster next season but no move should be made until we get into at least mini camps or there’s another necessitychucker wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:35 pm I'm sure I won't get much agreement on this, but I'd hang onto Cappa for depth for the moment. Cappa got bull-rushed into the backfield too many times for my tastes. Same with Putnam and Parham. All three should be replaced.chucker wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:35 pm I'm sure I won't get much agreement on this, but I'd hang onto Cappa for depth for the moment.
