Let me rephrase the question. What do you think Mendoza is lacking to have the talent to be a top 5 pick?DanKD wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 7:39 pm Mendoza is a top 3 pick easily.
What I mean is when evaluating players on overall talent entering the draft, he is prpbably not top 5. Talented quarterbacks move up in the draft. For example, Cam Ward probably wasnt even a top 20 talent. Sometimes a qb enters and is considered the top talent regardless of position like Andrew Luck or Trever Lawrence.
He is a Nix type of QB, short passer for the most part and a quick release. His deep passes tend to float. He takes bad sacks. His pocket awareness needs work and when the pocket gets small he gets happy feet. Lower body needs to add some weight so he has a better base to throw the ball. He is best in a RPO offense with some west coast components. His frame overall is smallish. He will need a strong QB oriented OC at the next level. He plays in a smaller school so he has rarely been overly challenged. His best games are when he has a strong run game output. I do not see him as a "put the team on his back" type of guy.Raidernation1979 wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 3:24 am Let me rephrase the question. Assessment is fair and accurate. Whoever we get will need time and a really good coach to prepare him, I’m not sure the latter is in the building. Regardless, we need a Qb and if he doesn’t work out, draft another until we do. I was pretty high on this Taylen Greene kid last year but not so much anymore. We don’t need a project, that’s comparable to drafting a kid who’s coming off an injury to me, which as I recall, we did our share of. Rarely worked out.Attyla wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 3:52 am Here is the thing, and I say this with a lot of college football left to play, Mendoza should go first of the QBs but in many other drafts he would go 4th or lower. Not a to 5 QB in many drafts. This draft is so bad at QB there might only be three that go in the first round and maybe only 2 should be in the first round. Moore might overtake Mendoza before it is all said and done and that to me is just sad that we might be talking about Moore being the prize. Simpson is a project but will be a first rounder. That is the QB draft this year.
Not my favorite QB draft at all, but the top 2 guys project as out the gate starters. Neither should be. Both should be mid year or later starters.
While I agree with most of your assessment I find the short thrower part off. He has a higher air yards per attempt than both Simpson and Moore. Also higher than Luck, Caleb Williams and Maye. Burrow was stupid high. I went back to reference him to a few “can’t miss” guys.Attyla wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 3:44 am He is a Nix type of QB, short passer for the most part and a quick release. On the positives? He is accurate as fck in his short game. Good field vision and can put the ball into small passing lanes. Good use of play action and he can look off a defender to get his guys open. Because he is a short yard tech, he rarely gets taken out on a blitz. He can run and is not afraid to take off but he needs to slide more often at the next level. Smart QB who has the height and arm length to get the job done. And he is not apt to turn the ball over on stupid plays or forcing the ball.
It's hard to know if they're busts when you don't put them out there.heavyD wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 6:33 am Boy the new braintrust hasn’t got a lot of production out of their draft class save for Jeanty. Hard to say if they are all busts seeing nobody on the team is having a great season under this coaching staff.
Pete seems to be coaching with the players he wishes he had rather than the ones he actually does.Opoponax50 wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 7:17 am It's hard to know if they're busts when you don't put them out there.
I think it's true that Pete wanted vets because it gave him the best chance to win now*, which is why we've barely seen them on the field. The two WRs and two OGs we drafted have maybe been on the field 50 times between all of them. Maybe less, which means delayed development. It's especially egregious considering that we lost hope for a playoff spot by week six.
*As if.
Ten seems like a cautionary tale. Didnt they turn down the NYG offer of 3 1sts last year? The Giants were saved by virtue of the fact that there was another team out there worse than them thinking Ward was worth more than what the Giants were offering. As a result the Giants, despite themselves, wound up much better off with an elite edge rusher and a qb better than Ward. If there is an offer out there for a bag of 1sts and next year's qb class looks much stronger, you have to consider that, rather than settling for a qb who isnt going to be elite.Ocoordinator wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 4:10 am Assessment is fair and accurate. After Qb, it is imperative to address the Oline, whether through FA or the draft. Wouldn’t hurt to get a bonafide number 1 AND number 2 receiver. We have neither, unless you wanna call Bowers one.
