Him and spytek should be able to put together a functioning organization. Sucks to have to succession plan from day 1, but it is what it is.
I agree that the preference is a young stud like Johnson, but the fact that Carroll is paired with Spytek who could be here long after him makes me more confident in a succession plan. Carroll should get us playing much better in the immediate future while Spytek lays the foundation for sustained success

Can’t think of a time where there has been a division in football with all four head coaches having Super Bowl experience:

Reid- Super Bowl wins
Payton- Super Bowl win
Carroll- Super Bowl win
Harbaugh- Super Bowl loss
We’ll see if it works. Our last coach was never a coordinator and needed mentors to guide him, this new coach has 200 years of experience but might not live til the end of his contract.

Why can’t we just do normal shit like the other teams?
At the very least in the short term he brings badly needed credibility to the organization and will install a culture of doing things the right way. This organization has been rudderless for decades and finally it feels like they may be on the verge of building a foundation that can breed long term success. The QB situation is immediate roadblock but via draft or free agency I have to think it will be better than this season of Minshew and AOC and if they draft a QB, hope that he can be the future. Things look a lot better today than they did this time a year ago.

PC brings with him legitimacy and that in itself will help foster the ability to bring in quality people into the organization. Raiders need to rid themselves of the stigma of a poorly run franchise. To your point, a future isn't guaranteed to any of us. Only hope.

And here's to hoping this shit doesn't implode.

I wanted Ben Johnson most of anyone. I also know that there's a chance that the "floor" for Ben Johnson as a HC is really low because he hasn't proven he can be a good HC and leader of an entire team, but was willing to risk that because of the possibility that he'd be the next great coach.

With Carroll, the floor is much higher, and the ceiling might be pretty high but only for a limited time because of age. I guess the biggest risk is that health issues can come at you fast at age 74.

We should be a significantly better team in 2025 but the OC and QB questions are still to be answered.

With this hire, the greatness of the Raiders is in its present.

At his age, length of contract, and team needs I'd expect the trading of draft picks for players to win now and we all know the taste of that meal. See Carson.

Maybe I'm wrong but don't be suprised when we trade the farm for Dak or something stupid I don't want.
Big upgrade over AP, IMO.
I feel the same, AP brought in all these 'advisors' (philbin, Lewis) to help him and and we saw the results that got us and some wanted the same guys there next season, Pete at least is a one stop shop for that.

I might have egg on my face this time next season when we are looking for a HC again but this the most optimistic I have been with the HC spot for the past 8 year, I had hoped Gruden and McD's spells would have been better but I had no time for Rich B or AP and look where both are and will be going forward, some guys (Rich, AP & McD) are just not meant to be HC's in this league.
