Around the NFL
No clue where to post some stuff not necessarily team related but could be? Feel free to delete if this belongs somewhere else.
Maxx and Parsons would be nasty. I probably wouldn’t pay the price though.

I could see Canada having a team, but not Europe because of the travel, or Mexico/South America because of the crime.Attyla wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 9:27 am https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nfl/articl ... 50048.html
Dipshit idea. The travel alone would ruin seasons. As for a SB outside the US? Screw that as well.

Im all for sending the Chiefs to europe. Not to be an nfl team but just to leave them there and revoke their citizenship.

naw, the plan has always been to go to europe first, the n.f.l is gonna try and steal soccers markets (europe, mexico, south america, middle east and the orient) canada is way way down the linerich72 wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 12:40 pm I could see Canada having a team, but not Europe because of the travel, or Mexico/South America because of the crime.

I beg your pardon, but the only thing I want the United States to follow the rest of the world in is requiring voter ID.SkullCrusher wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 11:19 am American Sports.
The World Cup is legitimately bigger in viewership. 175m vs 500m.
UEFA Champions League Final says at least as big as SB could be considerably more.
India's Cricket Championship IPL 300m
The end of year Game Awards gets the same number as the Super Bowl now but is growing faster.
Otherwise: NO

Correct the NFL is already eying Europe for actual divisions.mstrbass2000 wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 3:46 pm naw, the plan has always been to go to europe first, the n.f.l is gonna try and steal soccers markets (europe, mexico, south america, middle east and the orient) canada is way way down the line
It was not a coincidence that the Vikings stayed in England after their game in Ireland last year. It was a trial run of sorts for a team being in Europe for 2 weeks then they cam back and had a bye. Once there are international divisions this will be the norm.
The way it will work:
1. Eventually two divisions of four teams each in Europe. As a guess 1-2 in England, 1 in Scotland, 1-2 in Spain, 2-3 in Germany, 1 (possibly) in the Netherlands. Exactly how it would break down isn't important simply its doable.
Germany getting 2-3 teams isn't far fetched. At the end of NFL Europe/Europa it was the largest markets and fanbases.
2. Each US team will be in Europe at one point in the season for the European team's home games. Play back to back like the Vikes, go back to the US and then have a bye week.
3. Four team divisions keeps the rotation the NFL has now with out of conference and an even number.
4. The additional bye week will push the Super Bowl out another week into February which the NFL wants anyways.
5. Drop preseason to 2 games and increase the regular season to 18, pushing the season back yet another week into February.
As far as logistics? Really no farther than Germany for timing which works as there isn't enough financial incentive to push further east in Europe.
The NFL gets around the restrictive EU laws and labor laws by headquartering each of the teams in London. How and why? The UK is no longer part of the EU.
In short with franchising fees and revenue from commercials it makes far more sense to go after Europe. As you note, the rest of the world? Sure for one off games but not divisions of teams. Canada? 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US border. They already have them largely as a fan base without needing teams.
In short? The NFL owners smell money and have been building towards this. Its no accident that Tottenham Hotspur stadium was built with the NFL in mind.
As guess for timeline? Perhaps around 2030 when the TV contract is up. Its up in 2033 so they would likely start the initial process earlier.
A lot of this is some educated guessing and speculation. It may not turn out exactly like this but directionally looks to be correct if for no other reason then the owners aren't going to turn down the franchise fees and that's just the start of the $$$.

I wish the original NFL Europe concept would have caught on. Of course I wish the USFL would have endured.
I don't think divisional matchups would ever be practical with European teams but non league games where those teams play each other during the regular season and then an end of the year "World Championship' could be feasible. I am all for it.

How so? As noted the structure is already there and the Vikings basically did a proof of concept last year.Reno Hightower wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 5:31 pm I don't think divisional matchups would ever be practical with European teams

Exactly. Embiggening the NFL is going to come at the expense of quality.raider_kin wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 10:54 am Clown Goodell caring more about his legacy than anything else. Putz.

I always thought Roger was the worst commissioner out of the major sports. Then I started thinking that weasel Silver may be worse. Roger just removed all doubt.
