Nah. There's scenarios where I can see AOC playing ahead of Mendoza. The ability of the offensive line to pass protect being a main one as I really get the feeling the Raiders don't want to throw Mendoza into a crumbling foundation. I think they want to ensure that the offense is near peak operating condition prior to putting him out there and it could take months to get there. I think some fans may get frustrated that they don't get to see their shiny new toy play but I really get the feeling that he's not going to play a lot in his first season and I'm okay with that.Opoponax50 wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 10:01 am I feel safe in saying that if O'Connell is taking snaps in a real game before Mendoza then something is seriously wrong with our #1 draft pick.

One of if not Fernandos best trait is his intelligence and work ethic which when put together allows significant improvement and develolment.
Fernando was a much better player this year than last. He was even much better by the national championship then he was to start the season. Ive no doubt he will be much better this year in week 18 than he is in week 1. So im not goimg to panic if he isnt starting week 1 whether its behind Cousins or even AOC. But i doubt AOC would beat him out regardless.

They can be patient with him for awhile, but not until everything's perfect for him. That's just highly unlikely. At some point he's going to have to get out there and take his lumps. The coaching staff can hope to minimize that, but if Cousins goes down, Mendoza needs to play.heavyD wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 10:42 am Nah. There is no future with either O'Connell or Cousins. Cousins should start for X number of games, but no matter what happens, Mendoza needs to see the field at some point this season unless Cousins is really tearing it up.

If I am Kubiak, the only way O'Connell plays ahead of Mendoza is if Cousins goes down early and the line has not yet figured it out. I am all for throwing guys to the lions until we know that we can keep Mendoza upright. We do not want a David Carr situation here.heavyD wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 10:42 am Nah. I have worked rotating 12hr shifts - 4 on Days, 3-4 off, then 4 on Nights…. For 18 years now. You have to commit to it, get your sleep when off, if you want to be successful.raider_kin wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2026 3:24 pm Same here. I worked a 12 hour shift for 3 months, and at home I just vegged.

He's been drafted for the future. Everyone on the team has said the same thing: they believe sitting a rookie QB helps develop them for the long term. It's why we have Kirk joined the team.BoKnows81 wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 5:09 am LMAO.
If that's the case then we should of never drafted Mendoza at 1.
But that will not be the case. So, no.

But the future is likely during this season. The times when rookie top level QBs sat for a year or two are long over. Technology has advanced the position transition from college to pros and sped up getting the guys on the field.WolfRaider wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 6:13 am He's been drafted for the future. The price is set, the only holdup is distribution of the bonus more than anything. Brady and he seem to be connecting on a very deep level. I think having that is going to solidify his desire to play for the Raiders. Everyone knew going into this that the top players in the draft most often go to the worst teams in the league, so Fernando knew he would see some bumps along the way unless a team traded for him.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 11:09 am The cliffhanger on the tweet "The Holdup....
