“He can come off a little geeky [but] the guy is a lion as a competitor. He is ferocious, tough, and makes plays with his arms and legs. [Fernando is] real and a very deep guy. [He’s] extremely intelligent [and] can talk about a lot of different things. But committed to be great,” Cignetti said on the Rich Eisen Show.“
Haven’t had this at QB in so long I want to drown in koolaid

Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders will take Fernando Mendoza’s process slow. The No. 1 overall pick worked predominantly with the threes during OTAs and mandatory minicamp, and Kirk Cousins and Aidan O’Connell were ahead of him in the quarterback rotation. The aim of that practice was to play Mendoza alongside developmental players to learn the NFL game together, so head coach Klint Kubiak doesn’t appear in a rush to ready his future quarterback. Assistant head coach Mike McCoy said the team has “a detailed plan” for cultivating Mendoza, adding that “the most important thing is that you just stick to your plan, and when you know you make that decision.” All signs point to Cousins starting the season at quarterback and the Raiders waiting for the right time to replace him with Mendoza. — Sam Warren

Right now, I believe there's a 90% chance that KC starts the beginning of the season...BUT, if FM continues to show progress by shining in camp and pre-season, there's a chance Mendo wrestles the starting gig from Cousins...time will tell, I suppose.

Nice to see the team doing things the right way for a change. Take your time and let him get comfortable with things. Im sure we will see plenty of Fernando thus season. I know Im in the minority but if they stay healthy I think the O line will be solid. Not great but not a train wreck either.Jeevo wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2026 6:28 am Las Vegas Raiders

The line is tricky to read at this point. How much was coaching and how much was talent last year. I know injuries played into it as well. We definitely beefed up at center and it is well documented how a great center upgrades the rest of the line so that should get some immediate results. The rookie is a solid addition and could well start at guard this year at some point. But guys like Glaze worries me, can they get their game to the next level. I hope so.FLORIDARAYDAH wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2026 6:58 am Nice to see the team doing things the right way for a change. Take your time and let him get comfortable with things. Yeah there are a lot of ? for sure. I thought Glaze looked decent and then took a huge step back as well as the rest of the line last season. Will Miller finally stay relatively healthy or is he done? I don't see a great line but should be solid IMO. I don't think Mendoza is some shrinking violet that won't play because the line isn't perfect. I just think they don't want to rush him no matter how the line is.Attyla wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2026 8:15 am The line is tricky to read at this point. i wilkl be shocked to see FM start to season, or any game for the first half of the year. Even if KC goes down I think it's AOC that will come in. I think they wabt him to be mentally ready when he steps out on the field and not trying to learn on the job.

If that's the case then we should of never drafted Mendoza at 1.
But that will not be the case. So, no.

I think it will be interesting to see the QB decisions. Cousins is highly likely to start the season. I understand the decision-makers wanting O'Connell to stick at #2 for now, because once Mendoza is elevated, it's hard to go back. I don't think they worry about what fans think but I think they'll care about what the rest of the team thinks if they have O'Connell ahead of Mendoza - not a big deal if O'Connell looks better in camp and practice, but I'd assume that Mendoza will look better at the end of August.
However, having a different plan than what fans want doesn't mean you never should have drafted Mendoza. He was the right pick, and slow-playing his insertion as starter doesn't change that.

Not really caring who is slotted where they are to start the year. I know who will be slotted number one at the end of the year.

Yeah, and a month or so ago there were some who staunchly said there was zero chance FM would not be the opening day starter...but I think they may have come to realize that management has other ideas, and why.WolfRaider wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 4:26 am i wilkl be shocked to see FM start to season, or any game for the first half of the year. I feel safe in saying that if O'Connell is taking snaps in a real game before Mendoza then something is seriously wrong with our #1 draft pick.chucker wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 6:12 am I think it will be interesting to see the QB decisions.
