The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

Riddle me this Batman. How is our Oline like a vacuum cleaner?

This is probably the worst line I can remember.

The line was really bad because under Chip Kelly; the Raiders played mostly in shotgun formation meaning offensive line was mostly in pass protection; hopefully Olsen will play a lot more I formation and actually run the ball more and get the line pushing downhill….
Also need to dumb down the playbook

We have 2 guys that are capable and the rest of our OL are division 3 college types. Coaching definitely blows but you can not turn shit into ice cream. Why are we wasting valuable time with players like Parham? Sit this turd down. He should never play for the Raiders again. He is a stiff and a whiff.

The playbook is fine, like many teams the formations is the bread and butter. You can call the same play from multiple sets. I want to see us call 80% or more under center but the line being so bad makes that tough to pull off. Presnap motion more often could help Geno with reading the defense but again with the line being so bad it makes the defenses just play straight up so we actually know before hand what is coming. Teams can blitz fewer times on us with the same results.SuperRaider wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 3:58 am The line was really bad because under Chip Kelly; the Raiders played mostly in shotgun formation meaning offensive line was mostly in pass protection; hopefully Olsen will play a lot more I formation and actually run the ball more and get the line pushing downhill….

While I won’t call him names, I agree that Parham is a well below par NFL lineman. I think they have inflated his size on the roster too. He is listed as 6’2” and 332 pounds. No way. I looked it up and he played at 285 while at Memphis and gained to 311 for the draft. I have been unimpressed since his first game; he was over drafted and is not starting material. I am concerned about JPJ too. But that’s another story.RI RAIDER wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 5:00 am We have 2 guys that are capable and the rest of our OL are division 3 college types. For "I" formation you need a fullback. Do we have a fullback?SuperRaider wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 3:58 am The line was really bad because under Chip Kelly; the Raiders played mostly in shotgun formation meaning offensive line was mostly in pass protection; hopefully Olsen will play a lot more I formation and actually run the ball more and get the line pushing downhill….

Runyon, possibly Mayer. Carroll has used FBs in Seattle, so maybe we bring one in.Oaktownonly wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 8:14 am For "I" formation you need a fullback. Do we have a fullback?

If we surround JPJ with a couple monsters, maybe one being DJ Glaze and sign a free agent as the 2nd guard.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:26 am While I won’t call him names, I agree that Parham is a well below par NFL lineman. I like JPJ. However he plays dumb and is oft injured. He can’t be counted on as a major piece right now.

And those 2 are injury prone and/or old. In 2-3 years we will need 5 starters none of whom are currently on the roster.RI RAIDER wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 5:00 am We have 2 guys that are capable and the rest of our OL are division 3 college types. So you are suggesting a complete rebuilding/makeover of the offensive line. I agree. D-line too except of Maxx. I was in favor of trading Maxx this year in order to start the process. But, now I am thinking maybe the current braintrust of the team is not capable of making good use of the extra picks. Perhaps John Schneider was to Pete Carroll as Ron Wolf was to Al Davis.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:41 am And those 2 are injury prone and/or old. The bright side is that the brain trust didn't sign any high priced free agent offensive linemen that contributed to this mess. I expect that will be a different story in 2026 free agency where the Raiders will take runs at the top linemen available. With a good free agency, draft, and healthy Miller and JPJ this unit should improve next season providing Brennan Carroll isn't still employed by the team.
