This is up to Carr and his agent. I am sure they kind of know what both his options are. The Raiders are pushing for a trade because that is in their own best interest. The Raiders have no power here and by David Carr's childish interview this is apparent it could get ugly if the Raiders push this further. Also with Carr's two best buddies Adams and Crosby on the team, I doubt the Raiders want this to even deal with this situation anymore. IMO it just makes sense for both parties for him to be released.
of course it is up to Carr and his team, I never suggested otherwise. I know he has the no trade. But all reports indicate that Carr will waive his no trade giving him and his team the option of seeking a trade partner or allowing the Raiders to do so. You only allow that to happen if you understand the uncertain nature of what to expect in free agency. Oh and Adams and Crosby are nonfactors. They might as well not exist for discussion purposes. Adams has indicated he came here to play with his college teammate but he is here now to play for the Raiders. Crosby has been largely silent on this.
It is really quite largely in everyone's best interest to get a deal done. The Raiders get compensation, the Carr team gets a new team under his current deal and a new team gets a shiny new toy they do not have to compete with in the market.
Of course this is all my opinion but it has some basis in strong indications of what is going on behind the scenes right now.

I am certain the Raiders are not concerned about any blowback and they absolutely have an interest in trading him. It really makes no sense for them to just give up and release him; if that was the case, why not just release him now?
So if no draft picks are involved he will be released. Thank you for agreeing with me.
Haha you’re a funny guy…I certainly don’t agree he’s going to get signed for anything close to what your posting.

Except for the last part- by rule no player can be released until after the SB.

Releasing Carr right now would be very strange if they did it and I think would be an unwritten rule with owners. Carr would be immediately a free agent and could sign with a playoff team. Don't know the rules with it.
Rosters are frozen until after the season
What I thought. I think playoff teams can sign a few unrestricted free agents during the playoffs. We will know a few days after the playoffs when Carr is released.

in this case while rosters are frozen, Carr has been designated for release pending a trade deal in lieu of release. Writing is not written on the wall, it is chiseled. He gets traded or released.
With the need at QB right now, he would 100% get a 3 year $90 to $100 million deal fully guaranteed.
This is not basketball or baseball.
$90-100mm fully guaranteed for Carr would be insane
If Carr takes the "high road" then he forces the Raiders to cut him.
If he doesn't retire, I hope he does "take the high road."
So, you are hoping that the Raiders get nothing for him?
