NFL Trade Deadline
Ok maybe this doesn’t need its own thread but the deadline is 5 weeks away. I know the next couple weeks will determine if we are buyers but let’s say we get to 5-2 do we make a move?
I really wish we still had Jakobi here but it sounds like a few guys might be available…
Brian Thomas Jr
Marvin Harrison Jr
Jerry Jeudy
Thoughts?

I agree there is zero upside to keeping Cousins once Mendo starts...if you can get something for him Go for it!!!!

yes, there is no rule but rookies drafted in teh 1st rd get paid hefty bonus's "which mean dead cap if you get rid of em yr 2" plus we used high draft capital to get him and will want high comp in return for a 2nd yr guy even though he is stinking it upTrainnvain wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 10:30 am There’s no rule that prevents the Raiders from trading Jeanty right now. They can’t renegotiate his rookie contract until after his third year

If they're ready to move to Mendoza, it doesn't matter what you get in return for Cousins IMO - 2nd, 3rd, 7th, whatever. IMO it's not about the value in return, it's about the QB decision that's right for the Raiders. Also remember that whatever team he finishes 2026 with will have $10 million hit their cap next year (unless his team wants to keep him - which will lock in the $78 million in guarantees on his 2028 salary).

i agree "cousins is more valuable to a qb needy team in the hunt" plus his current deal is way under starter money too for 2 yrspfish57 wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 11:21 am I agree there is zero upside to keeping Cousins once Mendo starts...if you can get something for him Go for it!!!!

it always matter "what you get in return" you always go for maximum value regardless of situation...i believe if he is traded this yr the bonus money hits our cap as dead money over the next 2 yrs not the team trading for him, whom are responsible for remaining salary this yr and next yr onlychucker wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 11:23 am If they're ready to move to Mendoza, it doesn't matter what you get in return for Cousins IMO - 2nd, 3rd, 7th, whatever. Obviously you want the best return in a trade. I'd rather get a 2nd or 3rd round pick, but I'm not holding out just because I think he's playing well enough that someone "should" value him as more than a 6th.mstrbass2000 wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 11:28 am it always matter "what you get in return" you always go for maximum value regardless of situation...i believe if he is traded this yr the bonus money hits our cap as dead money over the next 2 yrs not the team trading for him, whom are responsible for remaining salary this yr and next yr only
The bonus money he has remaining is a 2027 guaranteed roster bonus that will not hit our cap if we trade him this season because it isn't paid until next season. He was not paid a signing bonus by the Raiders in 2026 because that would have just ended up being an offset that would have saved the Falcons cash and cap and Cousins wouldn't have benefited from it. It saves the Raiders $10 million in cap next season if we trade him this year. That would also somewhat play into what another team will pay in trade compensation.
However, while some of us would be happy to trade him, every indication from the Raiders is that they will not do it. I'll be happy if we find out that all those indications are a false front.

We would be morons not to trade him. This may be beneficial to both sides as I would think he may jump at the chance of playing meaningful games. I am sure KK would not do anything unless Kurt is on board (which I would respect). I was never a fan of Cousins and I have a new found respect for the guy (he is much tougher than I thought). If we are being honest, how much would Mendoza gain from being his understudy for the 2nd half of this season?

My guess at this point is we hang around playoff contention and Cousins plays well as he has all year. I’m fine with Mendoza sitting and sucking it all up with maybe a little action here and there.
Best case scenario is Cousins continues to excel all year and we make playoffs or get close.
Could see a nice trade in the offseason.

Who is giving up a 2nd round pick for Cousins? I’m saying we aren’t gonna trade him for a 5th or 6th. No one is giving us a 2nd round pick for Cousins.

Never know…I mean firsts were given up for sauce Gardner…just say he continues to be top five in stats the rest of the way(I know a big if)…you don’t think a team would give a second? I mean the draft class is ass…LayneStaley wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 12:45 pm Who is giving up a 2nd round pick for Cousins? I’m saying we aren’t gonna trade him for a 5th or 6th. Side note…this should put to rest the old “next years QB class in insane”
So lucky we got Mendoza

I also think the league probably understands the last time Cousins was good before this season was in Minny with Kubiak/KOC. Pair that with how Sam Darnold currently looks without Kubiak and I think the league probably understands they could easily be trading for the falcon’s version of Kirk.

I don’t think anyone is giving up a second for a 38 year old system quarterback. Just my opinion.HesterLayes wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 12:48 pm Never know…I mean firsts were given up for sauce Gardner…just say he continues to be top five in stats the rest of the way(I know a big if)…you don’t think a team would give a second? Gruden argued that Cousins could help either team compete for a Super Bowl, especially given the talent already on their rosters.

I could easily see someone giving up a 3rd rounder for him if they truly believe he could come in and immediately help them win this year. It is the NFL, we've all seen stranger things happen.

For the record I never said I wouldn’t trade Cousins, I said I don’t think the Raiders would unless it’s some crazy price like a 2nd or 3rd. I’ve heard Tom talk about how Bledsoe was so important to him after he took the starting job as far as mentorship in timeouts and practices. I just don’t think the Raiders will do it. I would be extremely happy with draft capital for Kirk but I just think Brady has his hands all over this.
I also think we are winning the next 2 games which will keep us in playoff contention and stopping any QB change.
