Wouldn't normally be keen to trade for an older vet, but this one is such a natural fit that I'd do it in a heartbeat (subject to cost).
Would love to see this one happen.

Al would find a way to trade Kubiak to them for a few draft picks and some cash. I’m just grateful he didn’t leave the franchise in the hands of his kid, what a disaster that would have been….
No to the trade, we’re not in win now mode. Pretty sure they’re holding another draft next year. Vita can still play but we need to follow the model of getting younger. This has the makings of future regret and dead cap space.

I'd be happy to have him on the team and happy for the Raiders to pay him good money. I don't think this team is in the competitive window where you give up trade compensation to get a 31 year old DT though. I'd pass, even though he would help a bunch this year.

The cap money can be managed. For me the question is draft capitol.
He has a few more years on the tires and would improve the defense by leaps and bounds.
The d line would be top 10.
We always talk about the trenches. He is the trench...
Him on defense and Linderbaum on offense in the same off season is crazy.

It would have to be a 3rd round pick at the absolute best, and that might be too high.

Sure, send them a sixth round pick. Pretty sure they won't take it.Be_Easy_25 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 1:38 am He’s 31.
That’s a year younger than our current NT.
He makes us better right now.
We aren’t tanking for a QB.

It comes down to cap space now and in the future. If we can manage that without screwing the entire plan over, I'd love to have him on the team.Rabidraider wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 6:11 am The cap money can be managed. For me the question is draft capitol.

A rule of thumb that I like is, if you give up a first round pick and acquire the player, what number do you think that pick will be?
If you think that after acquiring Vea, we will be a playoff team, and the pick will be in the 20s, it’s a good trade. He got us to the next level, and it’s unlikely pick 20 would have the same immediate impact.
If you think that after acquiring Vea, we will still be a top 10 pick type of team, was it worth it? Not really. Sure, he made us better, but we still weren’t good, and now we missed the opportunity to draft a young potential blue chipper. The blue chipper ultimately moves the needle more on taking this team to the next level, in part because the timeline is more in line with the rest of the team.
Maybe you can justify it if Vea was 27 instead of 32. But at his current age, adding a guy like Vea is only worth it if he can immediately take your team to the next level.
I’m not sure we’re there, so I’d pass unless he somehow becomes much cheaper than expected (I might pull the trigger if we can get him for a 3rd)

He’d definitely fill a need but yes I’d think it would really be contingent on a discount deal. Maybe a 4th and a later pick swap or something along those lines. I don’t think we’re making any block buster moves for a 31 year old nose tacklechucker wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 5:54 am I'd be happy to have him on the team and happy for the Raiders to pay him good money. I don’t think anybody would argue anything you say here but I’d ask at what cost? He’s still a bandaid that will need to be replaced shortly so what are you willing to pay?Be_Easy_25 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 1:38 am He’s 31.

Since he's already looking for mo money, I doubt he'd give the Raiders some kind of a special discount and I doubt Tampa would virtually give him away...so I don't see it happening.
Would he fill a hole?...sure. But would it be a logical move for a team in year 1 of a total rebuild? ...No.

They just need to be creative with the money. Back load the contract or whatever trick the cap guys do. Every year the space goes up and money comes off the books.Opoponax50 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 7:22 am It comes down to cap space now and in the future. I wonder if they would take a 4th and a player.
We have 55 million of cap space in 2027 without the yearly increase.
