There are no “NFL” coverages. Football is a very simple sport. Man, zone, combo. Cover 1,2,3,4, and 6. Yes there hybrids which 6 is. Also variations. However pre snap you get a general idea using motion. They can try to disguise some stuff but it will be revealed after the snap which is where processing comes and you know if the pre snap was accurate or not. Is the middle field open or closed? Most offensive concepts will have man beaters and zone beaters.NoClapsPlease wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:22 pm Not to take away from him but we don’t know if he can read NFL coverages yet. We just know he runs an RPO run heavy offense. RPO is just a one read play. I will give him this: he makes his decisions quickly.

The kid is a f[raiders_icon]cking winner and I see the 'It' factor in him. I couldn't give 2 shits about his arm. It's the most overrated attribute for a QB.
That being said, we need to make every effort to fortify the line. We need a Bears type turnaround for the O line bc Mendoza doesn't have the mobility that helped Caleb survive his rookie year. But we already have the RB in place.

I doubt he is 6'1. I want him to get an invite to the combine so that can be validatedAmish Cabal wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:38 pm He's got a mid-tier line vs SEC opponents. Doesn't get the chance to stay in the pocket a lot. He'd get the same situation in Vegas. But even with 4.45 speed he still buys time, keeps his eyes downfield and looks for receivers. He's not the run first type from what I've seen. He's accurate at every level, even on the run. Fast release, good arm. ...And he's 6'1".
He could use another year in college for the experience, but sit him a bit and he'd deliver. He's a pro to my eye and more than just "splash plays", but that's my opinion.

Elite physical traits can be a pretty nebulous term when talking about something like arm strength its not like there is evidence Mendoza is physically unable to make every NFL throw, I've seen him make them all with power. Maybe he's better at making certain throws than others like alot of qbs. I agree its all relative, I'm no expert and I dont want to get too carried away with my Mendoza fandom this early.NoClapsPlease wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 12:14 pm Everything is relative. We are talking about a 1st overall pick. Thats all. It’s not crazy to expect elite physical traits from a first overall pick.

Hell be 24 before the season starts. Been in college a long time already.Amish Cabal wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:38 pm He's got a mid-tier line vs SEC opponents. The priority should be to make Jeanty the centrepiece of the offense and build the oline accordingly. All of that gives Mendoza the best opportunity to transition to the NFL. There is absolutely no reason to have an oline that isn't among the top 10 units in the league, given our cap space and a few existing pieces with proven ability or potential.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:42 pm The kid is a fcking winner and I see the 'It' factor in him. Agreed. Realistically, this offense should mimic Indiana's.chucker wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:46 pm The priority should be to make Jeanty the centrepiece of the offense and build the oline accordingly. In run-pass balance, I totally agree. Just GTFO with the run-run-pass on downs 1-2-3. Gruden is gone.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:48 pm Agreed. Realistically, this offense should mimic Indiana's.

If measureables and athleticism were everything Tyree Wilson wouldn’t be such a pile of shit. Hearts and Brains mixed with good enough of the rest wins out imo.

The hashmarks alone makes everything different.
And you don’t see as much pattern matching in college as you would in the NFL
If it were this simple, teams wouldn’t draft bust QBs every single year.
