This would push me over the edge.
The antithesis of what we need in a QB. He needs to go to Houston if he is looking for a change.

As great of a player as he is, we must rebuild the right way and not use our pick on a 29 year old player.

Mendoza showed something some of the recent 1st rounders haven't, poise, focus, awareness, attitude and, clearly the ability to listen, adjust and not panic. These attributes are a far cry from several performances we witnessed in the just passed NFL playoff games. It's something that pretty much can't be taught and, anyone can see he's razor-sharp, doesn't have a chip on his shoulder. The arm is plenty good, accurate. Cannon arms are not an absolute necessity, ask Tom Brady!

Ive seen plenty of throws Mendoza has made at Cal and at IU, demonstrating above average arm strength/accuracy. Mendoza can make every nfl throw required of a qb and then some. He may not have the strongest arm ever, doesn't mean he's somehow got a weak arm that must be compensated for, lol.
While admitting Mendoza doesn't have an A+ arm, his arm is not much of a concern for me.
My biggest concern with Mendoza is his lack of escapabilty. He runs ok once he gets going, but he's not sudden at all. He's not going to excel at avoiding the pass rush and extending plays. Hate to say it, but I see a slightly better version of O'Connell in that area. It's not a must have, but in todays game it sure is a nice to have.

AOC has cement shoes for feet, the two are a world apart in terms of mobility, lol. These abilities are all relative but Mendoza has shown escapability in the pocket, he has a better feel for pressure then he's given credit for. I think he'll evolve as his game matures but I like the fact that he's not overly sensitive to pressure, and will stand tall in the pocket to deliver a strike even if it means taking a hit. Watching our previous
qb dance around in a panick the moment the pocket gets a little messy was a huge problem on offence.

Better than O'Connell. Regular season he had 284 yards and 6 TDs. On designed runs, like the TD run last night, he is absolutely able to gain good chunks. I think what you are referring to is more about when the plays break down. In those circumstances, yea, he is not great. We saw that last night. It is also not easy to teach. Feeling the pocket collapsing and shifting and seeing a lane to go through is probably never going to be part of his game.

And THAT gentlemen is a legit concern about Mendoza. The arm thing? Not so much. He puts plenty of zip on the ball but is accurate as hell. Better than Nix coming out, better than most these young QBs out there. But not better than Burrow, not better than when Manning was coming from Tennessee. But better than a lot of the guys coming out. And that has to do with football talent coupled with being truly smart as well. Never dismiss intelligence when talking about QBs

Seems like a bs report to me, this would be the opposite of the plan Spytek intimated at his recent press conference. The Ravens just made their choice between Jackson and Harbaugh, I think they're looking to bring in a coach more closely aligned with the offence. Trading for Jackson would make no sense for the Raiders at this point. His contract would eat up a much larger portion of the cap, preventing them from making necessary moves to improve their competitiveness. If a roster as loaded as the Ravens cant win with Jackson what chance does he have in LV.

Uqbar wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 7:56 am I saw the lack of power in his passes again. The passes take too long to reach the receivers, and that will mean he'll have a lot of interceptions in the NFL. It's a shame there isn't another option. Even Carson Beck, with all his limitations, looked more capable of doing damage with his passes. The Hail Mary barely reached 50 yards. If we draft Mendoza, it'll be another five losing seasons in a row. Didn't anyone else see the same thing I did?
No, I don't see this lack of velocity you see, he has plenty of zip. Of all the greats, was a complete cannon a common denominato? I'm also thinking No there to.

He'll suck if we can't protect him.

I used to follow Dov Kleiman but unfollowed him a while ago because of multiple "shit against the wall" posts like this one.

He used to be a legit person trying but he sold his account years ago to an aggregator who posts things in a certain way just for clicks.

By the way, while I strongly disagree that Mendoza's arm is too weak, I don't mind at all that people have contrasting views. The guys who've posted that it's a big concern have done it respectively and there's nothing wrong with raising a different view - because it makes us all think a bit more. They are entitled to their incorrect opinions.

Everything is relative. We are talking about a 1st overall pick. Thats all. It’s not crazy to expect elite physical traits from a first overall pick.
