...I honestly don'tr know if the teams are as hung up on the '# 1 wide receiver designation as much as the fans seem to be, or even if that can change with a teams due to whatever circumstances, and despite them possibly retaining the same coaching staff from the year, or years prior, but being in western new York, I know that the bills looked far better when flushing their so called '# 1', (Diggs) though in that case, their '# 1' certainly was a pretty big '# 2'.Attyla wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 8:33 am no, the rookie is not competing for the number one job. Very rare that a rookie is asked to be the top option. Very rare. Thornton is competing to be a number two and that is even in question.
...if that makes sense....

as has been noted, rookie receivers rarely ball out so I feel pretty safe in saying he is not going to do enough to be called the number one receiver on the team no matter who you areWNYRAIDER wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 3:39 pm ...I honestly don'tr know if the teams are as hung up on the '# 1 wide receiver designation as much as the fans seem to be, or even if that can change with a teams due to whatever circumstances, and despite them possibly retaining the same coaching staff from the year, or years prior, but being in western new York, I know that the bills looked far better when flushing their so called '# 1', (Diggs) though in that case, their '# 1' certainly was a pretty big '# 2'.

What's a really good #2? A single 1k season in a 6 year career? He's not even a top 5 slot receiver. A bunch of Raider fans have severely overrated the guy because we've had a massive crater at the position. But arguing he's anything more than a serviceable slot receiver is hyperboleDanKD wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 11:19 am Hes rock solid, really good #2 but hes not a game changer. He doesn't force defenses to game plan for him, double him or adjust anything. If Adams didn't demand a trade hed have had another 750 yards or so with low touchdown numbers. Id prefer to sign him to a reasonable extension but lets not over rate him because of the absolute crap we trotted out at receiver last year.

...agreed, and i would suggest that cooper will have yet another disappointing season, and then retire. ...he is fortunate that we pretty much have to have some more experience in that room this year, and that he was just about out of chances otherwise.Attyla wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 3:42 pm as has been noted, rookie receivers rarely ball out so I feel pretty safe in saying he is not going to do enough to be called the number one receiver on the team no matter who you are

As of now, he's still practicing with the team and has no plans for a holdout that I'm aware, so I don't think he's discombobulating anyone at this point.Opoponax50 wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 1:38 pm You don't think this throws the whole receiver corp and Geno Smith into discombobulation?
The dude was out there taking reps from other players. It's at best a dick move. So sure, more power to being a dick.

Just my opinion, but I think it’s too early to start selling off key pieces for future assets. Based on recent WR trade value, I doubt we’d get more than a day 3 pick for meyers in any case.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 9:06 am Interesting. So is it (A) Let's get what we can for a disgruntled player now and use Cooper and our young wideouts; or (B) End up settling a pay raise for Meyers (maybe an extension or maybe not) and use Cooper mixed in with the young guys and we have two good vets to help the young guys.
I will bet the (A) as I don't think the new regime is happy about Meyers attitude as they try to turn this franchise around. They settled with Kolton Miller in the off-season (actually at the end of July) but could not with Meyers.
But for me, getting rid of our best receiver (and maybe our only quality receiver) is a big set back for this season. What we can get for him now vs getting nothing for him after week 17… that’s a problem for next season.
As a trade deadline move if the seasons getting away from us, go ahead and start future proofing. But to make a move that substantially hurts us this year out of principle of being compensated for losing a player in a year… I’m not a fan of it.
I will say, I don’t read much into trade requests beyond a contract negotiation tactic. It seems like everybody and their mother requests a trade when negotiations stall these days. The indication I get by his showing up to training camp and playing in preseason… is that he’ll play for us this year. If the relationship deteriorates and keeping him becomes untenable… it is what it is and we don’t have much of a choice at that point. But I don’t take the trade request as indicating that’s where things are.

I think you’re being a little hard on the guy. He averages 73 catches a season over 6 years, has really good hands, blocks well, and is a leader in the room. He’s a real football player too, which coach was it that said he’s the first Raider he’d want with him in a dark alley? Anyway, he’s not getting wr1 money from us, or anyone else, so if I’m Raider management I’d be patient while he and his agent figure that out.NoThanksSir wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 4:01 pm What's a really good #2? Is there room for nuance in here? Take a look at the offenses and QBs he’s had in that span. The NE fans were upset they lost him. The Pats, in response, signed JuJu to an identical 3yr/$33M deal and he couldn’t come close to the production Meyers had in NE.NoThanksSir wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 4:01 pm What's a really good #2? The Raiders fans seem to really like what he brings to the table as well. Nobody is suggesting he should make $30M/yr, and I’ve yet to read any credible source claiming he’s asking for that. PFF had him as their 24th ranked WR in 2024.
Yesterday you claimed that Cooper is better than Meyers. Today we learned that all it took to sign Cooper was $3.5M. One is quite literally worth 4X the other in the eyes of actual NFL GM’s. Perhaps, instead of claiming that fans are overvaluing Meyers, you’re just undervaluing him. Not a superstar but you can do a hell of a lot worse.

One of the things I like about Jakobi is with the injuries and the Adams fiasco and the shit campaign that was the 2024 season he was one of the few players who looked and acted like he wanted to be here and was having fun doing it. He didn't spend his time raising eyebrows chattering on social media either. Dude threw down and was productive and while I'm not fond of his thing for diving for YAC instead of taking the hit or breaking tackles, he's still a better than average talent.
Hoping it's all just a bluff from his agent and he gets paid to stay.

If nobody is offering anything of real value, just keep Meyers and take advantage of a contract year performance. I also wouldn't count out him still signing an extension - trade requests are usually just a negotiation tactic by an agent who's been unable to come to an agreement. I wouldn't sign him to a $30 million deal, but we also haven't heard any details at all about what the contract demands are so we don't even know if that's even been suggested.

I also think he may be viewing the number of receivers that duplicate his skill set and wondering if he is going to get fewer balls. Guys like him want targets and getting less production might be a motivator for this request?chucker wrote: Wed Aug 27, 2025 6:11 am If nobody is offering anything of real value, just keep Meyers and take advantage of a contract year performance. I don't think I ever claimed Cooper was better than Meyers. Pretty sure I even said Bech is Meyer's replacement not Cooper. but Cooper has been far more productive than him yea so I'd rather pay him a few mill then invest in an average player like Jakobi.. Cooper is also inherently more talented than Meyers, who was a UDFA for a reason. His skillet can be replaced, and he's 29 yrs old. I'd give Jakobi a pay raise without extension. He deserves a bit more than 10 mill but if he's chasing what the rest of the market is getting I'm fine moving on. Plenty of nuance in my posts you may have been reading too fastDrDUne wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 10:12 pm Is there room for nuance in here? Take a look at the offenses and QBs he’s had in that span. You’re right - it was a different person with a similar name. I’ll read slower!
