Not sure I remember that as being the majority take. The consensus was why fix whats not broken..

Goodtimes333 wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 3:53 pm It's a very affective scheme. It would allow Maxx (if he stays) to be a more stand up edge role and he can be moved around and rush from all over the place. Something I've wanted for a long time. The type of pass rusher he is, he would benefit from that in my opinion. I hope it's what he'll run but who knows
Defense is not about sheme its about kicking ass.
Can Leonard get em fired up is the question. Yea yea sheme. Get em fired up in whatever scheme.
Lets goo

Yeah, Pete Carroll was a real great motivator. Antonio Pierce was ultimate rah rah. Scheme doesn't matter at all! It absolutely matters. You have to have the right players yeah. It's not that cut and dry to say, just go get it done and play hard

Matt Robinson is a great get also as secondary coach. Yong32 with ties.

Rob Leonard and Matt Robinson share a professional connection rooted in their time together on the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff under John Harbaugh.

The two coached together on the Ravens' defensive staff during the 2022 season. During this time, Rob Leonard served as the outside linebackers coach, while Matt Robinson was a defensive assistant

Matt Robinson coached for the Baltimore Ravens for five seasons (2021–2025). During his tenure, he held various defensive roles before leaving to briefly join the New York Giants and subsequently the Las Vegas Raiders in February 2026.

Rob Leonard came from this coaching tree:

Steve Spagnualo, Brian Flores and Mike Macdonald.

He's young but he's been around some of the best defensive football minds in the NFL today.

I'm not drinking any kool-aid but I'm not going to act like he's some bum off the street. Every Defensive Coordinator got his chance to call plays for the 1st time, this is Leonard chance to shine. If he fails, I have no doubt Kubiak will move on after year 1.

Scheme absolutely matters, Nnamdi Asomugha was the perfect example of a that a guy who was an elite shutdown man CB for us but was a bum in zone coverage for the Eagles

Most guys that get drafted are specific scheme fits & have to get to the right team to succeeds there are only a few player who transcend scheme throughout any draft

Cover shells are certainly scheme and that matters a ton. Man coverages, zone blocking, all of that matters. The days of just go out there and hit someone are way over. If scheme did not matter, coaches would not be fired year in and year out, they would just draft guys who kick ass and that would be it. But coordinators get fired yearly over how their defenses perform, not the physical aspects but because of the execution of the scheme.

Of all the fans in the world we know how much scheme matters especially with the amount of FA bums that have ended up here which is the big reason i mention Nnamdi

I’m just hoping we’re not gonna have another clear out because the players we have dont fit Leonard’s scheme

I’m especially excited to how Leonard can help the development of the likes Hemingway, Pegues, Porter & Richardson as i thought we saw flashes of actual player in them at times, god even Eichenberg & Lindenberg showed they could be productive depth pieces

I feel we havea lot of young guys who could be developed further to give us a base of a solid D

Concur. Lets bring in a ton of undrafted free agents, let them compete, keep who is serviceable, and repeat next year. Let's build a young team that grows up together.
