That is exactly an opinion. And you never know when a guy will decline. Maxx is not a year away from the cliff. His position is one where you can play at a high level for a long time if you take care of yourself. And he does. There is more than one correct way to go about this. If we entertained your path, we would have traded Long three years before he retired. After all, we were not winning with him. And that would have been a terrible move. Howie as a career Raider has value even after he retired.BoKnows81 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 7:47 am That's exactly correct. You always trade a year early. I just can't understand why some don't grasp this.
There is never one right direction to go in sports. There are just a lot of opinions. How boring this site and every fan site if we all agreed on every nuance of the game. The conversations would be like: "We should trade Maxx." And every other post would be "Agreed" and that would be that. It is the varied opinions that drive the conversations. So you don't understand why someone does not grasp your opinion. Good. You don't grasp others opinions either. Good. Let the conversation begin. Different views are good. Sometimes I get a view that is different than mine and it actually can change my opinion. Other times, I double down. That is why we root for a sports franchise. Because entertainment is at the core of any enlightened society. And what is better than talking with fans in a sports setting?

Not education.
Not a just legal system.
Not morality.
Not ethics.
Not family values.

Sounds crazy, I know. But leisure time is a defining aspect of an enlightened society. Studies are out there demonstrating a core aspect of heightened society is what we do with regards to things like sports. It fosters connections and emotions. Things like the thrill of victory and the agony of loss. Your list above are not binding connections, well family (minus the values) is a connection. But sport, that is a huge binding connection. We never celebrate a championship saying "the team won it all." We say "we won it all."Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 9:40 am That's a head scratcher.

That's a great point. But you don't think cultural educational (technological), legal, or ethical victories aren't celebrated in the same way though?Attyla wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 9:51 am Sounds crazy, I know. "We've landed on the moon!"
Rowe v Wade
When "we catch a serial killer"
etc.
Educational accomplishments or cultural moral achievements are also celebrated and binding to society I'd say. Just not on as much of a daily scale.

Yup, "two years from now" Maxx will turn 31 before the season even begins and will be looking for a new contract.Rabidraider wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 7:37 am What's the old saying "Better trading a player a year or two yearly than a year or two late".
My concern was Maxx's video could of cost the team a draft pick. It was a real f[raiders_icon]ck you to the management decision. Could you imagine if we lost the 1st overall pick because he was butt hurt?
If we get good draft/player compensation, I'm good with moving forward. We haven't won shit with him either. I can live with a total clean slate. Especially if we were to sign Trey Hendrickson before sending Maxx on his way.

Absolutely but it is pronounced in sport. I do agree that the core markers of a society can also include its accomplishments, but sport stands out in how we unite as a subgroup. In the distant past, every waking moment was about survival. Once you accomplished that, what little time you had was games. Card games, dice games and on and on. We relish in winning and losing as a species.BotesBoats wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 10:01 am That's a great point. Would he be good enough to crack their roster of blue chip flag football players? I mean, when you say flag football, you automatically think SerbiaRaidernation1979 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 11:47 am https://thesportsrush.com/nfl-news-itd- ... -olympics/

I’m in the same boat. Partially because of fatigue over the topic which feels like it’s just a regular part of our off-season programming. Partially because I could see the positive for either scenario (and the negative).raidersince63 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 6:23 am IMO, that's exactly why you might consider trading Crosby...(when his value is higher now than it ever will be and before his recently displayed "hey, look at me" attitude actually becomes a huge problem.)
The Raiders are realistically at least 2 years from being serious contenders in the first place, so why worry about keeping a player that is not going to put your team over the hump anyway?...especially when Maxx might bring us valuable dividends via a trade for player/s and/or draft picks that help change the "culture" for many more years than Maxx's current contract gives us, not to mention the $30+ Mil cap hit we would save over both this year and next.
Overall, I'm in the "I don't care if he gets traded or not" mode.
I lean towards keep him if for no other reason than my skepticism on how we’d use the pick. Ie 2 more years of Crosby is better than 4 more years of Tyree Wilson (or leatherwood/arnette/abram/ferrell).
Now, if it was a top 5 pick we were getting for Crosby with a can’t miss edge that even we couldn’t mess up… ok. But I have so little confidence that we’ll take the 28th pick and find anything more than a depth piece.

No way he's going to address it.If he did his name wouldn't be all over the news and his podcast appearances would decline...No way the attention whore is gonna allow that to happen.JRaider17 wrote: Mon Feb 23, 2026 12:01 pm Hopefully this is the week he starts to actually stand on business whether its to stay or be traded. The lack of really addressing it head on is annoying.

Another reason to trade Crosby this year, rather than in 2027. Take the 35 million dollar dead cap hit this year when were not expected to compete, rather than taking a dead cap hit next year. With 2- 1sts and 2-2nds you could address QB, ROT, DT and LB. With 2-3rds and 2-4ths a RB and 3 defense pieces. FA targets Devin LLoyd, Linderbaum, and an edge (Chaisson).

If Crosby is traded this year, it's a $5 million dead cap hit. If he's traded in 2027 then it's a $0 dead cap hit.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 5:24 pm Another reason to trade Crosby this year, rather than in 2027. The main reason I think Maxx may stay is because I really don't think any team is gonna give up two #1 draft picks as many have suggested.raiders93 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 3:19 pm I’m in the same boat. Maybe Maxx plays himself into the HOF, I dunno. Howie Long retired at 33 and made the Pro Bowl. Bill Romanowski was punching out back up TE's at 37 and then crawling into his insulated cocoon at half time.
Conventional wisdom seems to still use 30 as a point of decline but the truth is we don't know. Typically chronic injuries can also be an indicator.
Society in general is aging better. This is especially true with full time athletes.
