The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

Agree with you. The best ability is availability and the guy just is never available. Time to move on.NoThanksSir wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 7:38 am I think I was as high on JPJ as anyone, but the inconsistency is unacceptable at this point. He does have reps where he flashes brilliance and others where he is grabbing air. Add the injuries and I'm honestly at the point where I think the roster spot will be better used on someone else in 2027.

If he wasn't drafted in the 2nd rd or talked and acted like a meat head, I doubt many people would care if he got cut. I have no idea how he got an almost cult like status but he has. Dude can't stay healthy nor has he looked great when he's been on the field. Doesn't matter what a player's college accolades are or what he accomplished. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Maybe a change of scenery helps but this is what, the 3-4 staff that has soured on him for one reason or anotherchucker wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 6:34 am The legend of JPJ as a mauler is much bigger than the reality.

You mean it wasn't because of AOC12?chucker wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 7:18 am Yes but maybe we need to resurrect the line of Munford, Meredith, Parham, Van Roten and Eluemunor because we scored 63 on the Chargers the one time we rolled that group out there.

Crazy that in the last 3 years we have drafted 5 Olinemen in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. And this is the result.
Next year.... rinse and repeat I guess..

No it's par for the course...I don't no why we can't draft worth a shit...or if it's just been our coaches have sucked so bad that they can't develop players...hopefully that will end in the KK era!Raider_Dave wrote: Sat Oct 31, 2026 2:50 pm Crazy that in the last 3 years we have drafted 5 Olinemen in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. The offensive line has been very good at pass blocking. Maybe Cousins knowledge of the game/scheme and his ability to get the ball out has something to do with it, but at any rate, every week I see a pocket.
The run game is another story entirely.
Gaurds are getting pushed around, and lets say it like it is getting flat out beat/blown up. They never push anyone to the second level.
Its like ive seen more inside zone or inside trap or inside power than outside zone.
There's a reason the 49s didn't resign Bufect. Its like they needed an upgrade there.
But rest easy knowing hes an upgrade to some of the gaurds who we had last year.

Cycling through coaches and gyms with changing philosophies every year isn't helping with the players that are drafted either. Gotta stick to a scheme & let the hc/gm get players for that particular system. Right now we have a bunch of mishmash players drafted for certain systems. yes the coaching has been bad too thoughpfish57 wrote: Sat Oct 31, 2026 3:08 pm No it's par for the course...I don't no why we can't draft worth a shit...or if it's just been our coaches have sucked so bad that they can't develop players...hopefully that will end in the KK era!

What's the story on Zuhn? Do we know what his best position will be?

That logic extends to Jeanty as well. Take away short yardage and redzone runs and Jeanty has high 4s for the year.

T. Zuhn was balanced in his debut as a starter. His PFF grades were about the same in terms of pass protection and run blocking, though not outstanding by any means. The others, S. Burford and JPJ, were not balanced. Burford is the better run blocker and terrible pass protector. JPJ is the better pass protector but terrible run blocker. Balance is important even if the grades are not considered good.
