PREPPING FOR THE UNKOWN
Being an urban dweller, I have limited resources. But that doesn't mean I sleep walk. Have a cash supply on hand in case satellite service is gone. Have water, food, and grills to cook and prepare food. Have a 3 month supply of meds in case of interruptions. Cars are always filled. Propane tanks at the ready.
Power grids in this country are old and vulnerable.
I don't lose sleep over the shit, but I'd be stupid not to prepare for every occasion in this day and age...

Having two rvs in the driveway helps a bit. Between the two I have just under 200 gallons of water, plenty of canned goods and foods that have a long shelf life. Both have solar.

you need gold, silver not just cash...you need ham radios for communication, you need water supplies and filters, flint sticks to start fire for when the water is gone ...food supplies wont last, you need hunting gear, fishing gear if its longer term, grills/cooking surfaces can be made on teh fly...most importantly you needs guns, rifles and ammo ...medicines go scarce during bad times, you need a guide on natural medicine/herbs ect ect until shit stops hitting the fanSold My Soul wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2026 10:04 pm Being an urban dweller, I have limited resources. gasoline is a problem for the rvs plus they are huge targets for thieves looking for food and gas, when the shit hits the fan you head for the mountains and abandon the gas vehicles and move on foot "survival time"Xramfan wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2026 9:29 am Having two rvs in the driveway helps a bit. Texas electric grid has been ignored for decades. An ice storm shut them down for weeks. Its a huge problem for them. All the oil in the world wont bail them out if electric goes out.mstrbass2000 wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2026 10:07 am um the whole countries power grid is not prepared, not just texas...at least texas produce and refines crude/gas for energy
Plus:
Limited Interconnection with Other States: The Texas Interconnection covers about 90% of the state and runs largely isolated from the Eastern and Western U.S. power grids. While this avoids federal regulation, it prevents Texas from easily importing emergency power from neighboring states during localized shortfalls.

I cycle my fuel often and use stabilizers. If I need to bug out Its a large tank with more than enough to get me to the sierras or coastal mountains. If it hits the fan hard enough that I have to worry about thugs, me and my family can make their day pretty ugly quickly enough. ;)mstrbass2000 wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2026 10:20 am gasoline is a problem for the rvs plus they are huge targets for thieves looking for food and gas, when the shit hits the fan you head for the mountains and abandon the gas vehicles and move on foot "survival time"

The two biggest threats, from my perspective are:
#1 Solar Storm, AKA the Carrington Event (If you aren’t familiar, look up 10 way the world will die, solar storm).
#2 Volcano eruption, no I’m not talking about a super volcano eruption. Every 400-800 years or so, a Volcano will creat a year (or 3) without a summer…
Either of those scenario happen in your lifetime, If you haven’t prepared, you and your family are probably f[raiders_icon]cked…

In times of f[raiders_icon]cking chaos I'd rather have a ham sandwich ...not a ham radio. Gold and silver won't do me a f[raiders_icon]cking bit of good other than to make me a target. Got a 12 gauge and ammo. I'm 71. If shit gets that f[raiders_icon]cking bad I'll save the last shell for me.mstrbass2000 wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2026 10:16 am you need gold, silver not just cash...you need ham radios for communication, you need water supplies and filters, flint sticks to start fire for when the water is gone ...food supplies wont last, you need hunting gear, fishing gear if its longer term, grills/cooking surfaces can be made on teh fly...most importantly you needs guns, rifles and ammo ...medicines go scarce during bad times, you need a guide on natural medicine/herbs ect ect until shit stops hitting the fan

why, you can have a ham sandwich and ham radio to communicate with other to find out whats going on, 12 gauge isn't enough you need a rifle and hand guns too plus ammo for hunting and self defense...as for gold and silver you need that to barter for food and medicine when shit hit the fan...survival is the name of the game when shit hits the fan, especially if your doing it with familySold My Soul wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2026 8:45 pm In times of f[raiders_icon]cking chaos I'd rather have a ham sandwich ...not a ham radio. Ive always been prepared for the shit hits the fan for a week or so. I will never dwell on full blown chaos anarchy. Takes too much energy to get obsessive about it. I have food. clothing, water and weaponry to do OK but again, if things get that bad, oh well. I'd think it more prudent to organize friends and neighbors and create a team and strategy for safety and food gathering. Some will be sheep and others will be sheepdogs. History of the world. I'll see what happenes when it happens if it happens. For now I shall enjoy life as much as I can and be gracious for all I have.
