The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Unread post by erickench »

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

That is how the business of football works, you get just enough rope to hang yourself. I was the exact same with all the guys you gave "grace" to like Washington
 They're all "athletes" at this level. Minus some exceptions.

By your logic, Tucker shouldn't have a chance to do what he's doing now, because his numbers most of his career are not impressive at all. He started out as a decoy to get Adams open.

For those interested, Tuckers stats as a rookie:

you keep bringing up Tucker like I have defended him even once. Which I have not. But his rookie year, he almost doubled the number of catches Thornton had. And yes, this is a production business. If we reduce the standard to show "grace" we continue to suck

Thornton up until now has sucked. Why give a guy a pass because some fan has a man crush on the guy. I want to win and he has never contributed to a win.

Negative.

What I've objectively observed from Thorton, Benson, Young, and Nailor lead me to believe that Thorton is the better player of the bunch. Plus, Thorton is a threat that defenses have to respect even as a decoy, that makes him an asset over the other receivers. Thorton has an impact by virtue of just being on the field.

 how is a guy with 10 career passes a threat to anyone? After 300+ snaps?

you have a man crush that defies actual production. You brought up Tucker until I destroyed that argument. Now you are moving the goalposts. Pathetic

Watch the film and you will see how defenses lined up when Thorton was out there versus when he's not.

People talking about Linderbaum and not playing up even close to his salary.

I never watched any film of him when he was a raven. Maybe he is the product of the how good the rest of the ravens offensive line is? Anyone watched film of him when he was a raven?

JPJ was a bully at center. Watch him create holes which allowed a 3rd string running back to get 5 yards a carry.

Note: Apologies for the whiner thumbnail.

Plenty of blame to go around. Raiders paid up the ass for Linderbaum who has performed less than spectacular for his bank.

Tyler Linderbaum ... earned a 60.4 overall PFF grade in the 2026 season, 20th among 35 qualified centers. He played 479 offensive snaps on the season.

His PFF pass-blocking grade of 67.9 ranked 12th among 35 qualified centers. His run-blocking grade of 64.4 ranked 15th at the position.

He allowed 8 total pressures in pass protection. That total included 2 sacks and 4 hits allowed to opposing pass rushers. He was flagged for 5 penalties over the course of the season.

Having said that....room for improvement for JPJ for sure.

Jackson Powers-Johnson .....

48.1 overall PFF grade in the 2026 season, 65th among 74 qualified offensive guards. He played 256 offensive snaps on the season.

His PFF pass-blocking grade of 63.8 ranked 33rd among 74 qualified offensive guards. His run-blocking grade of 43.6 ranked 71st at the position.

He allowed 9 total pressures in pass protection. That total included 0 sacks and 2 hits allowed to opposing pass rushers.

He was flagged for 1 penalties over the course of the season.

Stack the line to make the Raiders one demential. Raiders weakness is the WR position.

Same story different year. Raiders lack quality at most every position. I hope when the trade deadline approaches we unload Crosby and Mayer for draft picks to upgrade a much needed infusion of talent.
