The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

I just do not want to see Burford in the lineup. We need to do something there and our pups can not do any worse.erickench wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 7:47 am The way it looks now C. Rogers is their best run blocker while JPJ is there best pass blocker. This is all according to PFF.

JPJ was a 2nd round draft pick. Why is he faltering as a run blocker?RI RAIDER wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 7:57 am I just do not want to see Burford in the lineup. We need to do something there and our pups can not do any worse.

jpj is a tweener type, cant play center and gets dominated vs stronger dt/nt ...so tired of his ass already ...trade him for a box of cracker jackserickench wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 4:42 pm JPJ was a 2nd round draft pick. Why is he faltering as a run blocker?

We ran the ball better last year because we have Tre Tucker on one side and Donte Thorton on the other side. Two burners that opened everything up, even though our OL talent was worse.
Also: JPJ is better than Caleb Rogers, I don't care what you guys say.

My guess is that like Tony Mandarich (for example), his technique is lousy and he was able to succeed in college by simply overpowering smaller and weaker guys.erickench wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 4:42 pm JPJ was a 2nd round draft pick. Why is he faltering as a run blocker?
The NFL doesn't have "smaller and weaker guys" on the d-line. So his lack of proper, consistent technique gets exposed.

I think JPJ stings more because he was our draft pick and a high one at that. I would not be adverse to see him moved to LG where he played his best ball as a rookie (he also played center). That being said, I am not expecting much from him (he may be a paper tiger) but I am still willing to give him one more run. I was pumped when we drafted him. I thought he was a STEAL (boy did I get that wrong, one of many). One thing for sure is we need to see some reshuffling at the guard positions. We have nothing to lose.

...wasn't jpj far more effective at the other guard spot? ...I can't understand why burford is still in there with his body of work.Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2026 12:40 am My guess is that like Tony Mandarich (for example), his technique is lousy and he was able to succeed in college by simply overpowering smaller and weaker guys.

He caught 10 balls for us. Nobody gave a shit about Thornton. He affected the run game exactly dickmranquales wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 7:58 pm We ran the ball better last year because we have Tre Tucker on one side and Donte Thorton on the other side. Oh and he had over 300 snaps, that says all you need to know. 10 catches with over 300 snaps, nobody gave one f[raiders_icon]ck about the guy

Thornton has incredible size, speed, and strength. Whats that mean? Nothing. He may never see a snap for the Raiders again (we will know in the next day or 2). I had high hopes for him then reality showed up and kicked us fans in the nuts. This is the 2nd coaching staff that was intrigued by his Ferrari characteristics that can not be taught but then realized he is a Yugo (and not much of a football player).

Had high hopes for JPJ. It’s a shame because he has the tools to be good but its looking like more and more his ceiling was college.

As it stands right now he bears a resemblance to Tyree Wilson.RI RAIDER wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2026 7:16 am Thornton has incredible size, speed, and strength. Whats that mean? Nothing. What do I mean? If you were going to draw up either football position in the science lab and looked at their measurables you’d end up with them.
Unfortunately for us (and them) having the physical characteristics is not enough.

How many catches did Tre Tucker have as a rookie? Tre Tucker has been a decoy most of his career, yet none of you hate on him. Donte Thorton was a rookie, give him some grace.Attyla wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2026 5:13 am He caught 10 balls for us. Nobody gave a shit about Thornton. He affected the run game exactly dick

no why would I give him some grace? Over 300 snaps he was on the field. He did shit. I don't give grace to athletes, they either produce or get axed. That is how the business of football works, you get just enough rope to hang yourself. I was the exact same with all the guys you gave "grace" to like Washingtonmranquales wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2026 1:57 pm How many catches did Tre Tucker have as a rookie?
