IMO, I don't think it will take 2 years...as the season goes along and positions are tweaked and changes are made, I think we'll see more and more cohesion with our O and our D.Coach dd 11 wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 6:49 am Losing takes its toll and the fans are sick of the yearly hype and then the shit filled seasons. It is completely understandable!
Yet, this team has several areas of weaknesses and is NOT a top caliber team by any means. We are in need of overall talent improvement and depth. It is going to take a couple of years and we should be adding a couple of risks pieces just on talent alone. I still think not signing a top RT and DT are going to hurt us bigtime and thus take us a couple years to add those pieces.
I'd also still argue the best hope is we play hard and improve this year but lose...A LOT and Maxx balls out early and someone overpays to trade for him to win now and we get multiple high end draft picks. I think we may finally be on the right path but it is going to take a few years.
I believe/hope that by mid season we'll have a better idea of what kind of roster we have moving forward.

yes. And by Gods saving grace they'll have the same coaching staff in place to sign and then draft players in areas of weaknesses for thier scheme.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2026 7:23 am IMO, I don't think it will take 2 years...as the season goes along and positions are tweaked and changes are made, I think we'll see more and more cohesion with our O and our D.

Mendoza won a national championship and is a Heisman trophy winner. He's not a head case. He not a purple drank slurper. He has his head on straight and is a quick learner. We had a 2nd round pick that started for nine seasons for us! Mendoza is better than him. For crying out loud, give the kid a chance.

I think for 5 or 6 games we might think we are looking at chaos, but they still have a lot of evaluating to do.
After that I know things will begin to steady down.
Week 7 we have the Rams. I think that is going to be a fun game to watch.

So, yep, he had a bad INT. These things happen. They happen to scrubs and they happen to HOFers. Elway had 18 such plays. Our own Carr had 17. Montana had 3 in the post season alone. Gannon had 6 and he only started a while. Heck, he had 3 in the SB on top of the 6 regular season one's. Bad things happen to good players. That is football. It is what you do after that happens that matters. He did not shrivel up and die. He shook it off. He was not sharp but he came out firing the next series. He also stood tall and took a sack. He did not lay the ball down or any other boneheaded thing he could have done.
This is a learning process. But he will get it. The sky is not falling. Look at what Ward did last year. Or look at what Williams did his first season. They both started and looked terrible. That is what happens with rookies.

Mendoza made a really bad play there. He was solid the rest of the time and was hurt by some drops and Jordan Meredith. Most impressive about his day was the toughness. He does not shrink or get discouraged. He still has a ton of learning and growth to make.
The expectations of some are absolutely ridiculous though. While there is arguments to be made for a rookie qb to sit and learn or start right away and take their lumps, in either case the all time greats almost always either sit or kind of suck initially.
The two recent qbs who bucked this trend are CJ Stroud and Jayden Daniels, both of whom seem to have regressed after that rookie year.

Pretty sad lol
I haven’t read the game day thread but, at least there’s only one here like this. Complete overreaction. He looked pretty solid aside from the late throw, slightly behind M.W. for the pick6. Especially with the two or three drops. I haven’t wavered one bit, in fact I think I feel even more confident in Mendoza becoming an elite franchise QB, up to this point.

Finally a QB that has some accountability and ballz to go along with his talent.DanKD wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2026 10:38 am Im not worried. Mendoza doesnt possess elite athleticism or elite arm talent that can wow quickly. His elite traits are intellligence, toughness, work ethic, and overall mental makeup.

Mendoza passes the eye test.
He looks like he will grow into an efficient gunslinger.

Mendoza is fine. Sometimes you can tell a lot about a QB by how he and his teamates react to his mistakes.

Haven’t watched yet. Posting here for the rest’a’ya.
Edit: That 2nd play he diagnoses was my favorite play from Mendoza. It’s what (besides extreme outlier Josh Allen) can’t be taught, and what dooms the majority of QB’s who want to make it in the NFL. Accuracy. Beautiful sweet accuracy.
It makes me so confident in Mendoza that that throw is in his arsenal already. Second game of his entire NFL career and he has the arm, and more importantly, mind, to make that throw. He’s not all arm-ing it like say a Caleb Williams would. He’s putting some sauce on the throw of course, but Mendoza nails that throw cause of his intelligence. He’s doing this shit…

We all saw how he was a savant with sideline throws, but the fact he’s got that middle accuracy gives us the entire field of play. Fuckin’ love it. I’ve got all the confidence in the world with this dude. Let’s me recognize that if anybody in the entire league has a chance of becoming the next Brady, it’s him.

Anyone else feel like the odds of Mendo starting week 1 have gone up considerably? Considering kubes was pretty gung ho on Kirk initially and now it’s unannounced… the silence speaks volumes on that one
