College Football Thread - 2026

Unread post by Willmark »

It’s that time of year for us to dog fight about who’s college team is better.

Best way to start it out IMO is with the preseason coaches poll that just dropped:

Preseason Coaches Poll
1.Ohio State
2.Oregon
3.Georgia
4.Texas
5.Notre Dame
6.Indiana
7.Miami
8.Texas A&M
9.Oklahoma
10.Ole Miss
11.Alabama
12.Texas Tech
13.LSU
14.USC
15.BYU
16.Michigan
17.Penn State
18.Tennessee
19.Washington
20.SMU
21.Utah
22.Iowa
23.Clemson
24.Houston
25.Missouri

We all know who are backing after that last few years but the 2026 season is almost upon us.

For my own part, this year is special I’m attending my first home game ever at ND on 9/12.

It's good to see USC not in the top 10. I don't watch a lot of college ball, but I do root for the Trojans more than any other team. Every year they get ranked way higher than they should be, which sets up inevitable disappointment. They look good for 2-3 games and then completely shit the bed by losing to a mid ranked team who thinks they've taken their game to the next level when in reality they just beat a way overrated team.

It's a lot like when bad teams thump the Raiders. Their fans think their team has turned a corner only to find out the next Sunday that no, they haven't turned a corner, they just played a worse team the week before.

I wouldn't sleep on Penn State. Matt Campbell will be building the next Big 10 bully.

Odd, Chattanooga seems like such a world beater. Then there is a 5-7 Florida State that a certain team got its asses kicked 37-17 last year.

It's an Iowa State roster as it is for the most part. He never made much noise in the big 12. Best year was a big 12 title game loss in how many years there. They'll compete, sure. But they aren't going to bully the upper echelon Big 10 teams. Michigan got the better coach in Whittingham. Ohio State & Indiana also mop up Penn State.
