Wild statement, unless I'm reading this in the wrong toneAttyla wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 4:10 am David took a huge beating that is true. But he was mentally weak, and he never recovered from that. His brother is equally mentally weak

Starting Cousins is a no-brainer.
As has been said many times here, let Cousins take the lumps from the likely growing pains the O-line is going to go through.
We can't wait until everything's perfect for Mendoza, but we can hope to minimize getting him hurt and destroying his confidence. No matter what, he's going to experience adversity, but there's no sense in making things more adverse than they need to be.
As for which authority to listen to in that article, I"ll go with Brady. His experience and knowledge of what it means to be an NFL quarterback far outweighs anything anyone else says.

I would like to make sure our o-line is looking good before throwing Mendoza into the fire. Theres really no rush, Mahomes sat on the bench his first season behind Alex Smith and it probably helped him be a more prepared player when he got his chance.mstrbass2000 wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 4:21 pm worked for josh allen whom is now probably the best qb in football...plus kubiaks system is very qb friendly ask sam darnold...im for fernando starting the yr game 1

alex smith was coming off one of his best season and was a top qb at the time, so sitting mahomers was correct but cousins is only a vet placeholder at this point and not even top 30rich72 wrote: Tue Jul 14, 2026 6:30 pm I would like to make sure our o-line is looking good before throwing Mendoza into the fire. fernando is the type of qb that wants to get punched in the mouth and challenged, kids a student of the game and would only get better from the experience imo

No quarterback "want to get punched in the mouth". I know I always preferred to throw from a clean, unhurried pocket.

I tried to get AI to make a picture of Mendoza enjoying getting punched in the mouth and it just came back that there is even limits to its creativity.ELCAraiderfan wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2026 11:33 am "wants to get punched in the mouth"....."wants to get punched in the mouth"

What he meant was that Mendoza is a bit of a scrapper on the field, which he is. Thug U beat the shit out of the kid in the National Championship game and it didn't phase him, even a little.ELCAraiderfan wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2026 11:33 am "wants to get punched in the mouth"....."wants to get punched in the mouth"

Some fold in those situations, some step up and win the ugly ones.

The ability to handle being punched in the mouth is one thing, wanting it is something else entirely.

Yeah our current head coach got the most out of Derek who suited up for 95% of his games until his final year..wish Derek was part owner instead of this moron who can’t self scout his Precious Patriots. “Speed doesn’t matter” Tom Brady, maybe check out the Chiefs or ya know the best offense your Patriots ever hadAttyla wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 4:10 am David took a huge beating that is true. And Pederson is clearly right. The guy also had great success as a coach & is a former quarterback himself. Just hope Kubiak gets to make the decisionRunOverByHubbard wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 12:47 pm CBS has an interesting take on should Mendoza start or not. A former NFL head coach says he should and Tom Brady is saying within the article that he should not. Then they cover how rookie quarterbacks have done in the past. It’s a good read:
