It will be interesting to see if Kirk Cousins nicknames him, "Bones".

I was thinking the more likely scenario was our staff had overnight to think about and discuss it. Thinking they would take the leap and jumped to the front of the line to start the day. With where they got him it’s a good value and risk imo.Raiders Baby wrote: Fri May 08, 2026 9:08 am I’ll give the pissy Cheerios take.
I think the fact that we passed on him at 38, 67, 91 is evidence that we also have some serious medical questions.
Maybe we would let him drop past 38 and play chicken with everyone else until 67 or even 91, but if McCoy had a pristine medical grade in our book I don’t think we’d let him slide lower than that.
If we love McCoy the player, then we have to weigh the risk of taking him against the risk of losing out to a more aggressive team. The fact that we spent two picks (67 & 91) before taking the risk means we think there is at least SOME risk with the pick. Otherwise, the risk of losing him to another team would’ve made us act.
This is especially true at 91, because there was a very real possibility that someone else would take a top 10 graded player before or at 100. Even with that risk, we decided that we’d rather have a lower graded player with a better medical record.
I am enjoying the Koolaid (what a fool I am) and so I appreciate the positive spin here. And hey, maybe it will all work out. What a blessing that would be!
But I’m an actions >> words guy, and our actions said pretty explicitly that we also agree there is a “ticking time bomb” risk with McCoy

Oh I’m sure once he was on the board still at the top of Day 3, we locked in on him. Clearly he was never off our board entirely, and on day 3 he became a priority.Viper wrote: Fri May 15, 2026 11:50 am I was thinking the more likely scenario was our staff had overnight to think about and discuss it. Half full: His medicals weren’t so bad to keep him from being on our board, which means the front office must think there is at least some chance he will be a productive player
Half empty: his medicals were worrisome, because if they weren’t one of the teams would attempt to be “smarter than everyone else” earlier in the draft. There must be a high risk of something being wrong because at least one of the teams would’ve made that calculation
I’m a Koolaid guy

This would be incredible if this kid can play. Getting a top talent (projected to possibly be in the top 10) in the 4th would be HUGE. I know we drafted a few injured players later in the draft than they were projected to be because of injury. Unfortunately, it never worked out for us.

Michael Bush was a pretty good RB for a little while.RI RAIDER wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 11:13 am This would be incredible if this kid can play. I was one of those guys who wasn't thrilled with the pick because of the injury, but if the HC says he's looked good at the Rookie Mini camp, then I am all for giving him a chance.

i wanted us to grab him earlier then the 4th...kid would have been the top cb in this draft if he had been healthy, very sticky witht eh ability to move wr off of their routesRick In Bakersfield wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 3:56 pm I was one of those guys who wasn't thrilled with the pick because of the injury, but if the HC says he's looked good at the Rookie Mini camp, then I am all for giving him a chance.

I'm skeptical that the Raiders outsmarted 31 other teams but I will say that if this kid proves to be healthy and has a great career, I'll eat crow.

If you remember, just one year prior, The Raiders didn't take a chance on a corner with health concerns, and he dropped to the second/third round. He got picked right after us in fact (went to the Cardinals I believe). He ended up having a pretty solid rookie campaign and looks to be the steal of that draft.BoKnows81 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 4:29 pm I'm skeptical that the Raiders outsmarted 31 other teams but I will say that if this kid proves to be healthy and has a great career, I'll eat crow.
If you ask me, the Raiders are making up for that pick by taking Jermod McCoy.

The pick was a no brainer. When you suck & it's day 3 of the draft, swing for the fences

Plus with a 4th round pick if we get 3 to 4 seasons of starter caliber football out of him it will be worth it.

It's not about outsmarting and more risk tolerance. He was going to get drafted by a team and it was only a matter of when.BoKnows81 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 4:29 pm I'm skeptical that the Raiders outsmarted 31 other teams but I will say that if this kid proves to be healthy and has a great career, I'll eat crow.
