Predict the 2026 record - your realistic expectations

Unread post by Viper »

With Mendoza needing time to adjust, an unproven O line and what I consider average receivers, I’m not really expecting to light it up on offense.

Defensively, we should be at least middle of the pack. That should go a long ways in helping stack wins.

Having said that, we are improved across the board yet still more work to do. I would predict we have 6 wins this year, double what we had last year. If Pete can manage 3 last year, I have faith with a better coaching staff we can do better. If we can beat the teams we’re supposed to plus staying close in the 4th quarter against better talent, we have a punchers chance in some of those.

Personally, at least another year or two to make some real noise if we nail FA and the draft.

8-9 wins is realistic ceiling hope. With all the top down newness and where they started from.

Im much more interested in the 2nd half record, or at least how theyre playing.

Was watching some of the 1971 AFC Championship a little earlier today.
Man back then the Raiders were a tying machine over several years.
Colts came in with one tie, we had 4 on the season.

I just watched the ‘84 Superbowl win vs the Redskins and it never gets old. Totally old school watching the 2 set backfield with Kenny King and Marcus Allen, who at the time was like having a legit number 2 receiver coming out of the backfield.

I fully expect this new regime and the roster they are building to become relevant again and have it be normal for us to be a perennial playoff team again. As in, it would be unexpected when we didn’t. Like, our star Qb went down in week 6 type of thing. If Plunket can do it, so can Mendoza. Having dogs on your team like Todd Christensen, Allen, Branch, Hayes, Haynes, Millen, Dalby, Long, Hendricks, Martin, Alzado, Townsend …. I’m sure I’m missing a few, but you get it. No idea how many times I’ve watched it but it’s pure enjoyment, every time.

The game has changed a lot but I’m confident our new young staff are more than capable of guiding this team in the right direction. Hearing Madden say “boom” during the broadcast with his energy should almost be a Raider theme.

I watch it occasionally in real time. It really gives you an appreciation on how good those Raider teams were when they showed up to play. That was our day.

Just watched a '83 game MNF against "the undefeated" Cowboys. They left feated, 40 - 38 with like 6 Raider turnovers to make it interesting. Marc Wilson at QB, only 1 pick, so it wasn't all him. Just another MNF win for the silver and black. The D was mean.

I've been wanting to post an small couple minutes of the SD game in 1980, the second match-up of the season (split they year, beat them in AFC champ), there's like 2 minutes of crazy late in the game that ends with Christensen scoring his first NFL TD and doing his Micheal Jackson in the end zone.

It's how I cope...

I am glad I am not the only one. Marc actually looked pretty sharp in that game only to fall apart in Seattle the following week. Another good one is the 1979 MNF comeback against the Saints. After Snake got his bell rung he went into a zone. I forgot how tenacious he was and how quickly he could get rid of the football. Lot's of similarities between his play and Gannon's.

I took a deep breath and watched the 1986 Divisional loss against the Patriots, it was as ugly as I remember it. For a while it looked as though we were going to roll them until turnovers and untimely penalties pushed things off the rails. That pretty much spelled the death knell for Marc Wilson, and Same Seale? good god...

Its so minor the only reason I responded is that I was surprised to remember where I was immediately so long ago for a regular season game.
At Grandma's. It was an explosive back and forth night game. I also remember watching Sugar Ray Leonard vs Tommy Hearns (robbed by judges in a draw), part 2 there a few years later. Random memories floating up.

Sunday night football premiered in 1987.
