He does have one attribute that may endear him to any FO. It may be his best attribute. Dude will eat a shit sandwich and be ready for another no questions asked. 7-10 for a QB3 isn’t too shabby. As long as he doesn’t make a fuss about wanting more he could be here for awhile.
I’m starting to lean into the belief that he could be here 2 more years at the very least. Especially if he’s willing to take less to stay. He’s getting paid QB2 level this year. That’s too much. QB3s average $750K to 1.1M. He’s always gonna float in that QB2-ish QB3 for the Raiders.
IF Mendo is indeed what we all hope he’ll be, our WAY too long in coming Franchise QB, the team will be on the road to success. And continued success takes on particular team behaviors.
Continued success when you have your franchise QB is hitting home runs in the draft. Especially when your QB1 starts getting PAID paid. The more draft picks you have in the draft, the more opportunities at the plate. If your drafting well that will come from comp picks in the draft, but one of the greatest values a team can have is a QB2 teams want.
Next year Cousins will move on, and we’ll be looking for a new QB2. Usually that QB2 will be a B-C-D movie version of the QB1. AOC will be for the new QB drafted next year what Cousins is to Mendo this year. Though maybe we eschew getting a QB2 teams covet and instead end up with a happy little family QB room. Fernando, Alberto, and goofy Uncle Aiden.
If AOC is as aware of his shortcomings as we are, he’ll take a pay cut to remain a Raider. Who knows, maybe he can get his mug on the Mount Rushmore of QB backups alongside Frank Reich Bills 10 years, Charlie Batch Steelers 10 years, or dear old Dad Garry Kubiak Donkeys 9 years.

^^^ Good summation, CTG...The anti-AOC venom is laughable and way over the top.GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 3:20 am He does have one attribute that may endear him to any FO. I mean, why are some people seem to be "losing their cabbage" over the status of a QB? Such an uproar over who our QB3 is and why spend so much time and energy pointing out the obvious, which is that AOC is not our starting QB, but instead, our 3rd string QB and must be replaced !...seriously?
It's such an over-reaction to a nothing burger (with cheese and fries, of course)...slow day, and egos.

Why do you feel the need to take repeated shots at people like that last sentence?

Because he isn't good enough. I don't see how this isn't plain and simple to see.

We have quite a few players who are not good enough to start...ergo, they are backups for the same reason.Dr Death wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 5:12 am Because he isn't good enough. I don't see how this isn't plain and simple to see.

I know, but they aren't backups to the most important position on the field. I don't dislike Aiden at all.... he just isn't good enough to be the #2 QB.raidersince63 wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 5:17 am We have quite a few players who are not good enough to start...ergo, they are backups for the same reason.

Can you imagine trying to be taken serious and comparing backup QB to other backup positions? And imagine saying people have inflated egos for saying a player sucks. It's like some wake up, put on their AOC jersey, look in the mirror and say, '"ready for another hard day of defending trash today".Dr Death wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 6:13 am I know, but they aren't backups to the most important position on the field. That's pretty much what guarantees he won't be on the team. No one's paying a practice squad QB a 4th year salary. We'll get an UFA and O'Connell will end up somewhere else, if anywhere at all. I can't help but feel guilty on the organization's behalf for all but ensuring he wouldn't succeed in the NFL. I don't think he's starting material but he could have been a longtime backup under a more stable team.chucker wrote: Sat Apr 11, 2026 7:29 am There's a good chance that our third QB is on the PS and not on the 53.

There's only been one weirdo here who ever said that O'Connell was starter material That guy even went so far as to say O'Connell was "elite."BoKnows81 wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 6:51 am Can you imagine trying to be taken serious and comparing backup QB to other backup positions? Voices coming from deep inside a rubber padded room in an old timey insane asylum don't count.
Anyway, everyone else hoped for him to do well but no one sane ever propped him up as a franchise QB.

There's plenty of those weirdos. One just said yesterday he was a low end starter.Opoponax50 wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 6:59 am There's only been one weirdo here who ever said that O'Connell was starter material That guy even went so far as to say O'Connell was "elite."

Yup, I just cannot understand why anyone would be in such an uproar over AOC..., a "nothing burger."Opoponax50 wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 6:59 am There's only been one weirdo here who ever said that O'Connell was starter material That guy even went so far as to say O'Connell was "elite."

Besides, from what I've been hearing/reading, the Raiders may just go with 2 QBs on the roster instead of 3.

That's also something that seems odd...as you alluded to, why do other players from last years roster get a pass because we were so poorly coached and managed, but AOC does not?Opoponax50 wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 6:54 am That's pretty much what guarantees he won't be on the team. The guy has had his first 3 seasons overseen by "ineptitude" each and every year...no one should be expected to be evaluated based on that.
