I don't love this. I get it, but I don't love it.

It's puzzling that people are killing AOC for being a 3rd stringer but were OK with Geno being a starter.

3rd is a good spot, but I won’t be the least bit surprised if he’s replaced before we reach the regular season.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 3:49 am It's puzzling that people are killing AOC for being a 3rd stringer but were OK with Geno being a starter.
I don't think most people thought that Geno was going to be as shit as he is. You can admit that Geno sucked ass and still also admit that there is no reason to keep AOC and his contract right now. You can get a late draft QB and save money. It's not like AOC has any experience in the Kubiak system.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 3:49 am It's puzzling that people are killing AOC for being a 3rd stringer but were OK with Geno being a starter.

AOC's 3.6 million is too much for a 3rd stringer. Money could be applied in other areas of the team. Plus I would like us to draft with either a late pick or UFA a developmental QB on the cheap.

I see a lot of AOC talk, not just on this board but also around the internet, and I have to say, I don't get it. As in, I literally don't understand why he is discussed at all.
I have nothing against AOC, good for him for making it to the NFL as a fringe player. But that's what he is, a fringe player.
No, we cannot trade him for anything. No, he is not a good developmental player as his upside is extremely limited. No, we shouldn't carry his contract as a 3rd stringer.
How has a thread about Cousins primarily become about AOC lol?

Stop making sense. You're gonna hurt the AO12 fan boys feelings.Raiders Baby wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:35 am I see a lot of AOC talk, not just on this board but also around the internet, and I have to say, I don't get it. As in, I literally don't understand why he is discussed at all.

While we could certainly cut O'Connell to save some money, we can also wait until final cutdown to do that and it won't cost the team anything to have him until then as a camp arm. There's no rush. We don't need the cap space right now.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a QB with a harder ceiling.Raiders Baby wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:35 am I see a lot of AOC talk, not just on this board but also around the internet, and I have to say, I don't get it. As in, I literally don't understand why he is discussed at all.

While there’s no rush to replace Aiden, it makes sense to have a plan to get another on the cheap. I believe he was a walk-on at Purdue and I’d be willing to bet you can find the same talent level player or better in a late round pick or undrafted on a much cheaper contract. He doesn’t represent much if anything in trade value.

Speaking only for myself, I'm certainly not a "fan boy" of AOC and as I have said before, if he becomes a roster casualty it will be more about his salary than his ability or lack thereof.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:38 am Stop making sense. You're gonna hurt the AO12 fan boys feelings.
I just don't get the venom concerning a 3rd stringer.

If AOC12 could speed up his processing he’d be one of the better backups in the league. But going in what year four? Still no signs of that changing.

I had the same "venom" towards him when he was QB2. He has zero upside, whether he's been in 1 system or 50. It does not matter when you're ceiling is 4 foot high and made of concrete. They can draft a developmental guy with more upside to be our eventual QB2.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:48 am Speaking only for myself, I'm certain not a "fan boy" of AOC and as I have said before, if he becomes a roster casualty it will be more about his salary than his ability or lack thereof.

Until we start winning games this type of needless debate/rhetoric around fringe players will be all this fanbase has. You can swap AOC with a dozen other names of fringe players with 10+page threads arguing over who's armchair analysis is best. I'm not immune to it either, it really is the most interesting thing about being a Raider fan at times.Raiders Baby wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 5:35 am I see a lot of AOC talk, not just on this board but also around the internet, and I have to say, I don't get it. I believe we have all referenced how uncertain we are of the ability of some of our other young talent from last season and we laid much of the blame on management for their piss poor decisions on how to bring them along, and if this is true, should these things not be also considered as a factor in AOC's journey/development/failures?BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 6:01 am I had the same "venom" towards him when he was QB2. And with very little preparation, the impossible situations AOC was often thrown into over the past 3 seasons did not help his confidence and development either. Coaching, play calling, little protection from the OL, poor running game, etc., surely played a role in his performance.
If he is released, which is certainly a possibility, it will be more about a relatively minute salary dump than his production as a 3rd stringer.
