He's not my first choice. I often don't get my way.

If he's signed for the vet minimum of $1.3 million, then it's great. I think he has $10 million that he's getting paid from the Falcons, and it that's correct then he'd have to earn more than $11.3 million to get even one additional dime for 2026 over what he'd get for signing a minimum deal.

In 1970,s it was ok to sit a first round pick for few season but in today game; they need to start straight away….
its competition, real competition to start...this is gonna light a fire under fernando as he wants to start and be great day one

No, they don't. You guys are acting like the sky is falling! Do you really think this move surprised Mendoza? Kubiak has been saying for weeks that he wanted a veteran QB and that the ideal situation for a rookie is to sit and learn. Now it happens and ya'll like, "oh my god, Becky, I can't belive they did this! *stomps foot on floor*" This is a great move and will make Mendoza even better.

This is the quote from Kubes that stuck with me...

"Ideally, you don't want him to start day one. You'd love him to be able to learn behind somebody. That's in a perfect world," Kubiak said Tuesday at the annual league meetings. "It doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes they have to play from day one, and it's our job as a coach to get them ready to go.

"I think it does help the player, though, if they can sit behind a mature adult and watch how they run the show."

Early on, quite a few better than a guy who threw a tantrum and refused to do the off season workouts because they dared pick a QB the year before.

Whether you like the Cousins signing or not, youre crazy if you think Mendoza has an issue with this. This isnt some weak willed whiny qb we are drafting. This is Fernando mother f[raiders_icon]cking Mendoza, who got turned down as a walk on at Miami to 4 years later lead a perennial failure of a football school to an undefeated season and national championship as the heisman winner.

I don't love the Cousins addition, but I think his reaction with the Falcons is a very different story. This time he's clearly signed on to be a mentor/bridge/example for the first overall pick.

This isn’t about Cousins, nor is it about this year to a degree.

It’s about the future.

The lens this needs to be viewed from IMO is they are doing everything they can to make sure Mendoza is successful.

From that viewpoint it’s clear what they are looking to do: give Mendoza every single thing he needs to be a success in the NFL. I would have preferred Mariota but considering the potential alternatives I can deal with it being Cousins.

Lastly? You never know wha happens between now and the start of the season. Flynn got beat out by the “other guy”. Could happen again.

I didn't want Cousins at all but a lot of that was my belief that he wanted to be a starter, period, and that bringing him in wouldn't be the right move for Mendoza. I guess Kubiak feels that that's not the case, and if he thinks this is the guy to mentor our boy at this point then let's go.

The same QB that showed up to the voluntary workouts when everyone thought he wouldn't, to include the HC?

I had a few guys on my personal list, but what I wanted was a career backup who was cerebral without the risk of taking on field snaps from Mendoza. Drew Lock was an option.. Kyle Allen was another. Even Jake Browning would have been a decent option. I wanted a guy who can get Mendoza up to speed, be a voice in the QB room and on the sidelines. But I wanted our shiny new toy to play from the start. I know that is not what the coach wanted but I have been waiting for this season for a long long time. We have had shit at the position with very few exceptions dating back to Plunkett. Hoss, decent, but not elite, Gannon who was great, and not much else.

This me being impatient. I admit it freely. Hell, I am probably even being a bit unreasonable. But that is the fan in me. Hubbard going on IR made me very much aware how quickly some of us are running out of time. My liver can only take so much.
