Klint Kubiak - Officially Head Coach
Figured it is best to start a new official thread around Kubiak being our HC as the other one was built up so much around the search. His introduction presser is at 11 PST today.

We were devastated by injuries on offense, which started with our all-pro OC going down in the Philly game, only 1 OL played more than 14 games. We lost #1, #2, and #3 RBs, QB1 for more than 1/2 the season. WR #1,2,3 , TE#1 and 2 We were picking up guys off the street by wk 10 . We had Philly beat in wk 3 if not for a 2 DBs runninginto each other with 2 mins left. Had ATL beat if not for a nit-picking DPI that let them hit a 57yd FG. Kubiak did a great job with what he had to work with. I'm a KK fan , that's why I'm hereGoodtimes333 wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 8:28 am What was the injury situation like that year? What was the timeline of the injuries? I recall the Saints lit up the Panthers & then the Cowboys. After that I'm not sure but I do know there was an onslaught of injuries. Welcome & thank you for the respect and decency!

McCoy is a good example of a talented center who isn't a great option because he misses a handful of games almost every year. That's a position where you want a guy who you have a greater chance of him staying on the field because it's so hard to just drop in a replacement.Dsnfla wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 8:46 pm We were devastated by injuries on offense, which started with our all-pro OC going down in the Philly game, only 1 OL played more than 14 games. If you have a Carr post, put it in the Carr thread.

Great article which highlights EXACTLY why we don't need anything close to a #1WR with Kubiak and his 12 personnel offense. Oh and for some that think Bowers being considered more a WR than TE is lacking football IQ, see paragraph below in italics.

Kubiak can simply align Bowers — who offers position versatility with Kubiak even noting he’s more reminiscent of a receiver at times rather than tight end — at the traditional in-line grouping and put him in motion. And just watch how much the defense responds with defenders either following or shifting to account for Bowers on the move.

Bowers worked out of the H-Back set a lot his rookie season. Why the Raiders could not effectively utilize both TE's last season is beyond me. Injuries were an issue but the potential was wasted. If they both can stay healthy, Kubiak will create a two headed monster with Mayer and Bowers. We do need some speed to take the cap off of the secondary. That was a huge liability when we were constantly seeing a condensed field. Chip Kelly did absolutely nothing to mitigate that last season.BoKnows81 wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 12:01 pm Great article which highlights EXACTLY why we don't need anything close to a #1WR with Kubiak and his 12 personnel offense. Just thinking out loud here. I’m hoping Kubiak and his staff can develop Thornton and Tucker enough to do this until we find a true field stretcher. These guys have the speed, they just need to become consistent enough for defenses to respect them as a threat. Bowers is going to force defenses to bracket him, if they can get the two burners to respectable levels, this offense is going places, hopefully the end zone.Toast wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 12:16 pm Bowers worked out of the H-Back set a lot his rookie season. I think they can. I attribute their failings more to Chip Kelly's ineptness than their abilities. But, it's tough to push the ball down the field with the line we had but you play into your own weaknesses by not sticking with the run game and hitting the tried and trued play action pass.JP808 wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 1:33 pm Just thinking out loud here. f[raiders_icon]cking Kelly was doing that out of the gun or even under center when Jeanty had only a handful of carries. Defenses were not even paying attention to it after a while.
At least Tom Walsh had the excuse that his Bed & Breakfast business was distracting him.

We got Thornton 6’5” 4.30 40, to hopefully bring a CB and make a safety cheat over.JP808 wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 1:33 pm Just thinking out loud here. Possibly Rasheed 6′0″ 4.53 40. We could use his return skills.
Also, dependent on the combine, Eric Rivers 5’11” out of Georgia Tech or Barion Brown 5’11” out of LSU are speed demons who may only take a late round pick.
None of them have to be “the guy”. Just “a guy” to keep the secondary from closing that clamshell.
I also like Cooper from Indiana for the obvious Mendo comfort and because we don’t have a large punishing YAC guy.
At the end of the day I think we’ll still be putting defenses in a blender with Kubiak’s scheming and Let’s Go Mendo’s progression savvy.
Man, looking forward to seeing this shit come together.

At the very least if Kubiak fails, it won't be because of lack of effort. This guy is going to do everything in his power for him & this team to be successful. That's really all we can ask for
Same with Mendoza. We know he has an incredible work ethic. If he fails it surely won't be because of lack of effort either. We're finally taking a swing on a qb and he's absolutely worth it as is the new hc
