I think I worded it wrong. I am a huge fan and love the kid and his story. There are just many #1/top picks in the past I would have been far more excited about (I guess luck of the draw so to speak). That being said, I see the risk associated with him just like I see on 99.99% of all QB's. It is just such a risky position. Add to that the suckage we have endured with our draft picks and it keeps me guarded and puts me in the I'll believe it when I see it camp. However, we would be morons if we traded the pick.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 4:22 pm We're not trading the pick. The fans would storm Vegas.
Just out of curiosity, why are you far from a Mendoza fan?

I get the sentiment, and I won't be pissed if we take Mendoza at 1. I do like the kid.
However, we need to build those trenches. Trading out would give us likely another 1st, a 2nd or two, enough to grab some stud fat guys we desperately need (both sides of the ball). Otherwise, we're digging thru the scrap heap of FA and paying a PREMIUM for anyone decent. I still believe the game is won and lost in the trenches, and our o-line is by far and away the worst. Like others have said, Mendoza's escapability is only slightly better than AOC. Somebody breaks through the line (as they currently do every passing down), it's turtle vs cheetah. We also need a run game or we'll ruin a QB no matter how good he is. A top o-line would unlock Jeanty, and we know a run game is a QB's best friend. We need a lot more than just QB. I won't be pissed if we go that route either.

Consuming any and all Mendoza content I can find, figured I'd pass along some cool little clips that shed light on the type of guy he is

I can't say I care if Mendoza does anything to prepare for the draft, so I never questioned this. As I said, I want him to prepare for the NFL, not prepare for some weird throwing drill.
The post is a good harmless reminder that there's a lot of BS out there this time of year and it's best to check the source before posting "news".

Everything the guy says and does shouts out professional. I have no idea why some of you don't want this in our locker room and sidelines.

We can definitely build the oline this year while drafting Mendoza. We'll probably still end up weaker than we'd like on defense because of the resources we commit to the oline. 2027 will be the year we'd likely focus more on the D. Building the trenches is so important, but it can be executed in any year if you do it right, no matter what pick you have in the draft. It's much more of a crapshoot whether you can have a shot at a franchise QB in any given draft so when you have that opportunity, you need to strike.Amish Cabal wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 5:48 am I get the sentiment, and I won't be pissed if we take Mendoza at 1. Being facetious? Chambliss + O-line + D-line sounds better to me than just Mendoza.Attyla wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 6:16 am Raider fans: 2018-2024-"We need to invest a high pick on a QB this draft, we are tired of bringing in aged washed up vets"

But you assume it will be just Mendoza. That is the huge error Raider fans make. Chambliss is raw and is not worth even a low day 1 pick. And here is the problem. You would have to spend a day 1 pick to get him. That means you overdraft him. And why do you have to spend a day 1 pick you might ask? Because someone is going to spend a day 2 pick on him. So you cannot risk someone grabbing him before you would. Hell, some QB hungry team with a bad GM might even take him day one. Stupid but it could happen. So then you are out there holding your dick. Chambliss is not 6'1. He may clock in at 6' even but I am not entirely sure. He did not throw TDs at the rate Mendoza did. While he runs better than Mendoza, I do not want a RPO guy. They either figure it out at the next level or they fade away. Mendoza is a spread QB but can play under center. He has ideal size and is accurate as hell.Amish Cabal wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 6:25 am Being facetious? Chambliss + O-line + D-line sounds better to me than just Mendoza.
So here is the deal. We have 10 picks this year. That is enough to do some serious work fixing other areas. We have the second most cap space as of right now so we can fix other areas quickly.
So yea, Raider fans not wanting to draft the future of the franchise puzzles me. Especially after years of waiting. You guys who do not want Mendoza puzzle me as well. Those passes he makes? He is a f[raiders_icon]cking stud. His intelligence? Off the charts smart. His work ethic? Unbelievable. So he is gangly when he runs. Who the f[raiders_icon]ck cares? On the design run plays he gets it done. Does he have a cannon? No but he can throw 40 yards on a rope. Does he take more sacks than he should? Not really, but every QB out there takes sacks.
It is simply a fact that if we don't take the QB at #1 it is likely we don't get a QB worth a damn this year. Because we simply risk too much competing with 31 other teams if we give up the number one spot. And no other QB since Burrow is as NFL ready as Mendoza is right now.

This is a false equivalence, since Mendoza wouldn't be the only offseason transaction/draft pick. Your logic is flawed.Amish Cabal wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 6:25 am Being facetious? Chambliss + O-line + D-line sounds better to me than just Mendoza.

A team could build the best line ever in the league but if you don’t have a QB to utilize it? Don’t really matter.

If Miami DBS could catch the ball, Chambliss would’ve had four interceptions in the semifinal. The only thing he can do better than Mendoza is run. That a QB does not make.Amish Cabal wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 6:25 am Being facetious? Chambliss + O-line + D-line sounds better to me than just Mendoza.

We can not overlook the QB position any longer. The chance of getting a franchise QB on a rookie deal is the best way to take a team out from the scrap heap. You are 100% right about building the trenches, but what good is it without a QB. A QB is where it all starts. If we trade the pick, we deserve eternal failure. I would rather swing and miss trying to draft a QB than doing nothing at all.Amish Cabal wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 5:48 am I get the sentiment, and I won't be pissed if we take Mendoza at 1.
