Can't hurt to look, but people thinking we should just offer him the job right now are being a bit ridiculous.Willmark wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 6:10 am I’d rather take a swing at an unknown, possibly high reward pick for HC than another retread. At minimum can’t hurt to look.

It can’t but if I had to choose I’d rather go with somebody young and/or less or no baggage, essentially no to McCarthy, Flores, Nagy etc.haji81872 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 6:42 am Can't hurt to look, but people thinking we should just offer him the job right now are being a bit ridiculous.
We’ve been doing the same thing and then when we mix it up we get McDaniels or AP.
Whether or not he’s a HC? Don’t know his experience is certainly thin.

Absolutely... and i believe that it should be the case. But we have seen the trend change in the NFL over the last 5 years.. but us fans don't have any inside information or know who's talking to who, it could've been Kubiak who mentioned Davis Webb to Spytek and Brady. We don't know , but definitely with Kubiak's family ties to the Broncos, it could've been him who alerted Spytek/Brady. And of course we would expect Spytek and Brady to wanna pick his brain and meet with him. Its all speculation but fun to try and connect the dots.chucker wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 6:34 am but I thought most people were onside with the concept that the head coach should make his own coordinator decisions.
And remember just because Spytek and Brady bring someone in to pick their brain doesn't mean that the head coach does not get to choose his OC. I wouldnt project Mark Davis' ways onto Spytek/Brady, i think we have a chance that Brady/Spytek have the leverage over MD to atleast say step back and we make the decisions on personnel because MD hasnt gotten it right, and MD has always admitted that he doesnt have a football mind, and generally lets the people he hires do their job. Of course all that goes out the window when Gruden became available. We will see, but we have hope in my opinion.

No to Nagy. Would be a disaster.

He's also the pass game coordinator so it's not like he's strictly a position coach. Who knows, some rise through the ranks faster than othershaji81872 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 6:08 am Why is that? He currently is a QB coach. No one knows if he will be the next McVay. There has been a lot of next McVays who have ended up next in the unemployment line. We can bring in a coach and hire him as an OC. If the head coach doesn't work out, you can move him on up if you need to. Payton calls the plays, Lombardi is entrenched at OC. He isn't going to be an OC anytime soon for them and has zero experience in play calling. McVay himself was an OC for 3 years before becoming a head coach.

You can't just look at Webb's resume as an official coach. You also have to look at his history as a player, because the backup QB ideally does a lot more than get ready to play in case of injury. He was in Buffalo as backup through Josh Allen's ascendance from scattergun to elite. Webb was with the Bills for 3 seasons but never threw a pass - probably because they didn't really want him to play in games and just valued his work off the field.
Buffalo reportedly wanted to hire Webb as QB coach but when Daboll was hired in NY, they immediately signed Webb as a backup and he was there for one season - the very good season that got Daniel Jones paid. Then he moved on to Denver as a coach where it seems he's a highly valued part of the staff.

I wonder if Saleh is in the mix but not being mentioned as the niners are playing this weekend? Webb could be OC with a defensive minded head coach. Brian Flores seems to invite drama? Saleh seems like a solid coach.

Everything I’m seeing is positive and a few that he might be “one cycle early” not that I put any stock in that.chucker wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 7:14 am You can't just look at Webb's resume as an official coach. As this process begins he’s closer to a yes for me. In fact a lot of the names mentioned so far? Nope.

For my money, of that list, I would think Kubiak or Webb would be my choice.
