If someone offers four 1st round picks for the chance to draft Mendoza, that's more reason to stay put, reject the trade and take him at 1.islandboy wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 7:20 am Only way Spytek trades the #1 pick is if he can get 4 1sts-(26,27,28,29), a couple of 2nds and a starting guard, from a team that he thinks will be bottom 10 for the next 4 years (Cle/Az/NO??)
Then if you trade Max for 2 1sts and a 2nd, that would be alot of building blocks to rebuild this team.
Maxx I'm all for trading.

First, I think trading for more picks would be a bad idea. There are teams that loaded up with picks this year, likely hoping to be able to trade into the top spot and pick their QB, and they now can't do that because a QB needy team has the top spot.islandboy wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 7:20 am Only way Spytek trades the #1 pick is if he can get 4 1sts-(26,27,28,29), a couple of 2nds and a starting guard, from a team that he thinks will be bottom 10 for the next 4 years (Cle/Az/NO??)

Second, just a detail but you can't trade 2029 picks until the 2027 draft has started. And you can't trade 2028 picks until this year's draft has started.

Its a great point, picks sound and look great until you realize they aren't even enough to get the guy you want because that team needs him also.chucker wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 7:30 am First, I think trading for more picks would be a bad idea. Football IQ is off the charts. Just talking about the safety having flipped hips as an indicator and then knowing how it would play out was fantastic to hear.Attyla wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 6:50 am Thanks for this. My take a ways:
First he preps hard and knows how to articulate the job
He is really a nice guy but very focused
He listens, and that is important because he did get some great advice
He asked good questions and he also has great awareness.
Honest answer to the Heisman noise so he is self aware
He is going to be the next great Raiders QB

Since 1960 this franchise has never valued or understood drafting QBs. Or at best doing so in a limited fashion often with disastrous results (Russell) or mediocre (Carr, Wilson) with a notable exceptions of Stabler (Ron Wolf pick) and Buerlein which the Old Man didn’t like.
The Old Man’s experience of winning two SBs With Plunkett taught him that QBs could just be picked up off the scrap heap and plugged in.
Then the NFL changed and he didnt.
We pick Mendoza and we hope he becomes the guy. And if not we keep drafting.

I hope the Raiders stay far away from Flores, he fields a great defense but his behavior towards Tua is a giant red flag to me, why take that risk? The last thing the Raiders need to worry about is whether their new hc is going to verbally abuse their rookie qb and interfere with his development. I dont trust Flores or his assurances that he's "grown" from his expirence at Miami, people generally dont change. Sure some of us who've been around long enough may be familiar with such tactics from a coach/boss but I dont think its a fit with todays generation.CWood24 wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 10:57 pm As much as Flores is a head case he is being proven right though that Tua wasn’t that guy & that Herbert/Love were better options
Tua is the poster boy for why owner’s should never be involved when drafting because the minute they do then you GM & HC are on a hiding to nothing
Not that Flores is my first choice but he is a hell of a coach though & consistently puts out top tier defences
This is why i want Davis & Brady nowhere near our draft process, even though Brady was arguably the greatest to play his position it doesn’t mean he knows anything about scouting they are two completely different worlds

Yep. Just two years ago, three teams were offered who knows how much in order to get into the top three and none of these teams were willing to trade. It's not just that there's zero guarantee that we'll be in the position to draft a #1 QB, it's incredibly unlikely to find ourselves in this position. This is our shot, we have to take it.Attyla wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:03 am And we are not just in need of him, we have been in need of him for way way too long. I don't trade this pick.
Unless of course, we discover that none of Fernando's teammates went to his birthday party.

Great interview. Impressed with his passion for the x's and o's and his attention to detail. If he can keep up with the speed of the NFL he will have the potential to be a great one. He certainly will put in the work!Raidernation1979 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 5:21 am Mendoza starts at about 25 mins. Great play break down

I watched some dopes on ESPN today arguing essentially that the Raiders are so bad they shouldn't take Mendoza but trade for more picks. Of course its fine for every other bad franchise to take Mendoza/Moore. Never understood this weird argument when there is great qb prospect available at the top of the draft and a team desperately needs one.Attyla wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:03 am And we are not just in need of him, we have been in need of him for way way too long. Also another constant with watching all these videos is his ball placement is insane. Not just accurately getting it to the receiver but them being able to keep running when they can or stopping them when there danger.

They gotta have something to talk about and it's going to be a long four months to the draft, which means that people on the internet are going to be echoing a lot of the stupid things they see on TV.tatalalicious wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:35 am I watched some dopes on ESPN today arguing essentially that the Raiders are so bad they shouldn't take Mendoza but trade for more picks. It's a 100% chance that it's going to be Mendoza. Our energy is better spent worrying about the next HC, FA, and how this draft is shaping up for 2nd round players (unless we trade Maxx for first round picks).

Yup...we have to endure this crap every year around this time...listening to so called "experts" who act is if their opinion is any better than yours and mine after sitting a bar and doing 8-10 shots of Patron'.Opoponax50 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:45 am They gotta have something to talk about and it's going to be a long four months to the draft, which means that people on the internet are going to be echoing a lot of the stupid things they see on TV.

And FWIW, after what's happened in the last 2 weeks, I believe there's a near 100% chance that Maxx is traded for a handsome return.
