Everywhere he goes, the ceiling seems higher because he's a couple inches shorter. So he always has more headroom. It's most noticeable in small cars.Raidernation1979 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:30 pm I’ve seen people say multiple times Moore has a higher ceiling. What makes his ceiling higher?

Some think he has a more "elite" arm. Probably looks a bit more fluid in his running. I think their are some who just think he "looks the part" more than Mendoza.Raidernation1979 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:30 pm I’ve seen people say multiple times Moore has a higher ceiling. Moore has had more mediocre/bad games than Mendoza. Ironically, both had a bad game against each other which makes me very curious about their next matchup. But, and this one rings very true to me, on the big stage, Mendoza came out guns blazing while Moore was no where near as effective. It will be interesting to see if Mendoza continues to shine and to see if Moore learns from his last game.NoThanksSir wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:38 pm He's the worst Oregon QB to come out in awhile. Herbert and Nix were both slept on. Moore is an objectively bad prospect but all of a sudden Oregon's system is reliable, and there's no clear #2 in this class after Mendoza. Moore is a product of the algo, he's a bad prospect.
If Moore has a bad game, he could fall. If Mendoza has a bad game, I don't think it will affect his draft status. And remember fellas, the Raiders are a team that looks backward to prior success to mirror that for the future. We like our Heisman winners. We have had six on the team and are usually relevant when we have had one. You know that has entered our goofy Turnip's mind already

Higher ceiling almost always means better physical attributes. Yeah Jamarcus had a higher ceiling than Brady.DeathStar24 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:00 pm It does coincide with the higher ceiling argument for Moore.
However, of course they're (Raiders) looking to win games in the immediate future. I don't think the Raiders will have the patience to hope Moore turns into what he could be if he doesn't come out and play well right out of the gate.
No one is thinking intelligence ceilings between Moore and Mendoza when they use those words.
Lamar Jackson is about as a high a ceiling guy as you can find, but then it's all on him, your putting a lot on his plate to hit that ceiling and a lot of hits.
Yeah give me the guy that's QB ready now, with a plenty high enough ceiling. He's smart, has the size, has the arm and can run, that's a high enough ceiling.
There will be non-stop going back and forth because that is the plan the studios come up with to get eyeballs watching.

The debate continues. Last night I talked with an old friend who is in the Cal Bear press room and hasn't missed a Cal game home or away in person in over 30 years. He has interviewed every Cal player for decades. He is a Raider fan.
Having said that, he does not believe Mendo is worthy of the #1 pick. Says hes a great guy, very hard working and very intelligent but more of a product of Indianas line, receivers, scheme and coaching. Not sold on his arm strength. He would prefer trading down for a boatload of picks and grabbing a Beck or Chambliss in the 2nd or 3rd. This is NOT my take but just sharing anothers opinion.
I told him that if the Raiders pass on him, Mark would need 24 hour armed security lol.

I don't think that being smart and a hard worker and a complete football nerd is factored into the "high ceiling" formula enough.

I did laugh at him for that but I think he was just tossing that as an example. He is just 1 opinion out of thousands of fans and beat writershaji81872 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:22 pm Mentioning Beck as a possibility tells me all I need to know.

I'm not too concerned about the outcome, because I think Moore has displayed how raw he is. He needs to stay in school. Herbert and Nix were both far better and not drafted high like Moore would be. If the Jets took him #2 overall they'd be committing to the suck. He's an incredibly raw passer. It'd be Wilson 2.0.Attyla wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:16 pm Moore has had more mediocre/bad games than Mendoza. There's no doubt Mendoza's on a stacked team, but he was great on a CAL team last year. And so we get the #1 pick to then settle for 2nd round talent at QB? Mendoza is worth the shot and yes he doesn't have a monster arm and not elite wheels, the rest is elite and the two weaknesses he has he isn't weak in, this isn't all or nothing.Xramfan wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:17 pm The debate continues. Al states:
Scouting Reports on Arm Strength
"NFL-caliber arm": He is capable of making all necessary throws on the field, including throws inside and outside the numbers, up the seams, and across the field to the boundary.
Velocity and Zip: Scouts note he routinely delivers throws with plenty of zip and can rifle passes into tight windows with "torrid, bristling pace".
Above-Average: While some analysts describe his arm strength as above-average rather than elite among top prospects, they emphasize that his exceptional timing, anticipation, and pinpoint accuracy compensate for any lack of top-tier velocity.
Deep Ball: One area noted for improvement is consistency on deep, vertical throws, which can sometimes be underthrown. He is considered more comfortable and effective in the short-to-intermediate areas.
Functional Strength: His arm is described as "functional," meaning he makes the throws needed to succeed at the next level, utilizing touch and changing velocity as required for different situations.
Overall, his arm strength is considered solid and sufficient for the NFL level, contributing to his projection as a potential first-round draft pick.

I was informed yesterday from a Cal guy that Mendoza left a bad taste in their mouth when he left the program. Supposedly, he lied to their faces about not transferring, and scared off a 5 star recruit who did not join Cal because he thought Mendoza was staying, and therefore would not be a starter. He then turned down a big NIL offer and went to Indiana.Xramfan wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:17 pm The debate continues. At the very least a lack of context. When did he say he was staying and how long after did he enter the portal. Things change and only a fool stays the course just to stay the course.Corleone wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:35 pm I was informed yesterday from a Cal guy that Mendoza left a bad taste in their mouth when he left the program. After Cal beat Stanford in the big game, Mendoza had an emotional post game interview, where he delcared he'd be a "Cal Bear forever".Attyla wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:40 pm At the very least a lack of context. He then entered the portal 18 days later.
I don't think calling yourself a Cal Bear forever means you're necessarily committed to staying all 4 years, but some Cal fans took it that way.

Yep, NIL is going to have that effect, also tells you Christian values only goes so far when talking $$$ and personal success.Corleone wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:35 pm I was informed yesterday from a Cal guy that Mendoza left a bad taste in their mouth when he left the program. Lots of players are religious because they are super grateful of the talent they were given.
